Turning a 2007 Globe Sport into an e-bike.

I've checked out all the possibilities. Now, I'd like to hear opinions. I want to keep the 24 speeds and the integrated brake/gear levers. With tax, the latest Bion-X is almost $3000, so that's out of the question. I'd really appreciate the feedback of experienced e bikers.

This is my bike. It's a tank and I love it. The frame has a lifetime warranty, whereas every e bike I've seen so far, no matter if it's $2500 or $10,000, have frame warranty's between 1 and 4 years. For me, the major task is keeping the integrated brake/gear levers, but having the engine cut off when I brake.

There is a less expensive alternative to the Bion-X. I have a kit from Leed. It mounts on the front wheel and is a fairly easy install for about $500-$1000. There is no option for motor disconnect though when braking. I have never used that feature on my other ebikes. The company has excellent customer service. Here is my 17 year old Mongoose set up with the kit:

Thanks Al P. Leed is one of my favourite conversion kits. I've also read on the forum that a lot of people don't think the motor cut off is necessary. Very nice bike, btw.

Does the lifetime frame coverage remain in effect if you add a motor? Most warrantees are void if you substantially modify the original setup.

Yes. I have a 20 year old hybrid bike that is going to get one of those.

I just checked it out again. It's really inexpensive, even with a laced rim. I'll talk to the chat guy about it.

From what I've learned in the last couple of weeks, 500w is the way to go. I've been reading about the GeoOrbitalWheel https://www.geoo.com/pages/how-it-works and it's another interesting possibility.

Well, I wouldn't want to lace an entire wheel, either. Once upon a time I could easily true a majorly buggered up wheel, but I'd rather not anymore, unless I had no choice.

I think it's vs. the basic no-name Chinese wheel that is the standard. So pay to upgrade spokes / rim for my heavy butt.
