Took the Plunge

I took the plunge and placed an order for the 750W Aurora with the great Xmas discount Evelo offered. Thanks to those who helped answer some of my questions and also to Evelo, who were very helpful too. It will hopefully be ready next year in Feb-March timeframe for me. Looking forward to it.

Only drawbacks for me thus far that I can see is that the rear rack is much thicker square tubing, so looks like it wont fit my Ortlieb 2.1 pannier bags, which is a shame as I like the 2x35L large capacity for when I do grocery shopping. Spent over $200 on those Ortlieb panniers, so it is a shame that they wont fit. The rack is really a non-standard size, but I know thicker will support more weight. I will have to see if I can find any other panniers that fit, but most racks are the round smaller diameter tubing, so likely will be hard to find something that fits a rack with bigger and more squarish tubing. And will have to see about attaching a rear blinking light, as most ones are built for round tubing, not square, but I probably can still find a way to fit one, so less concerned.

And I am checking to see if I can get it with a single leg, side mounted kickstand, rather than the dual leg center mounted kickstand. But, overall, the Aurora checked the most boxes I wanted in an E-bike, so really looking forward to it.

My Aurora 750 came in the beginning of December with the single rear stand. As a side note we found our pas level 1 was too fast for flat ground, David and Alex really helped out by overnighting a usb cable at no charge to reflash the controller. They also adjusted the power levels which really did the job.

Thanks. John at Evelo confirmed they can deliver it with a side kickstand too, so another box checked off. Just need to check about the Ortlieb 2.1 pannier bags and how to modify to have them fit the Aurora rear rack. Or see if I can find another pannier bag set that will fit the Aurora rack.

How do you like your new Aurora? What are your impressions? How do you like the 750w motor? So, how does the PAS modes work? Is there is a specific cadence required for PAS 1, and that had to be slowed or it provided too much power at PAS 1? I think the top speed is adjustable up to 28 mph for off road use. Have you tried that adjustment? I like to use throttle only mode sometimes, so the Aurora checked off that box. Have you tried throttle only mode? Thanks.

Wow that's the first time I ever saw a complaint about being to fast, I just adjust my electronic shift a little to pedal easier or faster? The throttle only mode is pretty mild if your easy with it. I like the PAS1 level with the transmission adjusted more towards the hill side it is a lot easier to pedal on the flat and slower, as soon as I move it towards the flat bars it starts picking up real fast. I ride most of the time around 5 bars or so on the shifter and gives a nice smooth 14/15 mph with good feel on the pedals.
I ordered a Cool Change rear bag with the built in unfordable saddle bags for mine, it fits perfect and solid and I really like it. Good reflective sides and bottle holder and waterproof, comes with carry strap and cover. Got it on Amazon for about 80 dollars.

The Aurora is my wife’s and she is very conscious about having an upright relaxed riding position, she is very pleased with the ergonomics. We did put the stem extender on it. I only have about 5 miles riding time on it, rides very smooth and stable and not lacking for power. Before the reflash level 1 speed on flat ground with hardly any peddle resistance would have you at 16+ mph, now it’s around 12.

Thanks Woodie. Good that it is working out for your wife. For me, does not have to be a super upright position, so I probably dont need the stem extender. I am really looking forward to the Aurora, as it checked off so many boxes for me.

I found the riding position much better with the riser it got the bars away from my knees, I also put an adjustable handle bar stem riser on. It’s s very comfortable ride. Other than that and a lousy front fender all is good.

I gotta agree on the riser made a whole world of difference. My front fender has not been an issue since I tweeted it a bit. I almost feel as though all the PAS levels are not really needed, I find myself in 1 90% of the time occasionally 2, seems like just two levels would be plenty.
Weather here in Oregon is not cooperating right. now so can't get out to ride.

By the way, did you Slime your tires? I am not actually sure if these are tubeless or tube? need to look that up. Got a bottle of Slime but have not put it in yet.

I haven’t done anything to the tires, although I would like to go a bit wider, not sure what will fit with my after market front fender and stock rear. Yes, level 1 on flat ground and we were at 16mph with no peddle effort, the new reflash has lowered that to around 12mph and drawing less battery for what I think should be more miles per charge.
