About 2 months ago I ordered a pair of those sleeve things that protect your arms from the sun. They were cheap ones and I was skeptical and wondering why not wear a long sleeved shirt. Today I finally gave them a try and found out what the difference is. Arms are covered but there is ventilation going into the short sleeve shirt bit so the set up is cooler than just a long sleeved shirt. Temps were in the 90s while I was out riding today.

I'm never as hot as when I'm sunburned, and as my father was red headed, I hardly tan at all.
I wear dark cotton work shirts at all times outside in the summer, usually mechanic's dark blue. I have to internet order them from Red Hat work clothes, as nearly everything else has polyester in it. I wore one at 96 deg F last week on my 30 mile ride back from the summer camp, and was comfortable due to the 20 mph headwind. I also wear white cotton poly garden gloves, dickies dark blue cotton/poly work pants, and a Fox Rampage helmet with chin protection. I drink quite a lot when I ride in summer, of course. Due to evaporation, the clothes feel cool on my skin.

Good idea! I’ve gotten more sun the last 3 months than I have in some years!
