This country is paying car drivers nearly $4,000 to switch to an electric bike

It's been obvious for a long time where people should not live; if they choose to, it is on them.
I have to take exception with that statement and the fact is lower income people and especially minority people have no choice because that is the only housing they qualify for financially and they are intentionally being pushed in to homes in flood zones, next to toxic land fills and and in danger areas around mines and oil fields.

The French can afford it! They fine ebike riders 30,000€ for riding non compliant ebikes. 250 watts, 15.5 mph. 😱ooh la la!

"The ruling now enforces that individuals, retailers or manufacturers themselves may not enhance the power of an e-Bike beyond a speed of 25kmh for regular models, or 45kmh for speed pedelecs, the latter of which require licensing, insurance and a helmet with suitable standard of protection for the vehicle."

On the flip side of the argument, LEVA-EU has pressed the case that “brute force” legislation to outlaw such vehicles skirts the reason many are opting to use them and has in fact called for a softening of laws.

Only an excuse for irresponsibility that is condoned by federal bail outs. The cities I have lived in on the river have low income housing outside the flood plane. Sure, everyone "deserves" a house, but responsible decisions still need to be made.

I read the LEVA-EU study in its entirety. It was published in June this year. You should read it. It doesn't come to the conclusion you think it does. Really interesting study. They aren't advocating for high speed or big power.

"It is unfair to punish citizens for problems caused by government."

My problem is most of the issues are because of the dick**** operating the bike, not because the bike is altered.
Solve the dick**** problem first. Yeah, like that's gonna happen. CN
Yeah, I agree. I also don't agree with the punishment. My comment was sarcastic humor.

The trouble with programs like giving tax breaks and free stuff in general is none of those programs are means tested.

Remember the GOP's opposition to Medicare and Social Security when it was proposed and passed. Just try and pry it out of the older folks hands now. It was socialism, the end of the American way of life. Health care and some financial security in your old age, so evil. My Canadian friends have quite a high opinion of the health care afforded them by their government. I have English relatives that also do quite well on their government health plan. My aunt just passed and lived to 97 Y/O under the English health system, and a few years back when she broke a leg, they sent home care so she could convalesce at home. That's the way to do it.
