Putin wants to put the band (USSR) back together.
That is not going to happen, and I do not think that nuking a potential "band member" gets him to the goal (in his mind).

Nukes are basically useless,its pointless to make the land you wish to conquer uninhabitable for centuries( please don't make our friends in Saudi Arabia a nuclear power.

Right, you will believe anything Iran says because you hate Donald Trump that much.

I don’t actually hate Trump, I actually feel sorry for him.

He is clearly someone who has suffered some serious trauma as a child and who coped by becoming a bully and a megalomaniac / narcissist, which makes him an authoritarian if given power.

What puzzles me and saddens me deeply is that people did not understand that regardless of their apparent political affiliation, this kind of personality should never be put in power.
Doing so can only lead (if they have enough support from their party) to the creation of an authoritarian regime, and in this day and age, when an authoritarian regime is put in place, it is almost impossible to undo.

And once you are under an authoritarian regime you have no control of the direction it will take any more, you have surrendered your ability to correct course if / when things go to hell (and they usually do).

That is never going to happen. I am not saying that parking lot solar doesn't exist, but they won't be as pervasive as you envision.

sure would be nice though it would even make the asphalt last longer(sheilded from the "actinic" rays of the sun)

You can put solar almost anywhere, but does it make sense to? Retired landfills make sense, as they are already clear cut and buildings cannot be built on them. However, many homes cannot accommodate them. Local zoning rules may not allow them. Homes on the north side of a hill will get a benefit, but what is the ROI? Homes surrounded by tall trees have the same issue. My last home was in a rural area surrounded by 90 foot white pines. I had a couple of solar companies stop by to give me a quote. Both were honest, and told me the only way rooftop solar would work would be to top the trees. If you know anything about white pines, if you take the top off, all that is left are trunks. The needles and cones are all at the top. So basically, my choices were to cut all the trees down, or set up an array on a steel pole in the middle of my back yard. No thanks. My current home is in a historic district where any solar must not be visible from the street. The front of my house faces southwest. It is also surrounded by 70 foot oaks and scrub pines. No thanks. To say that solar can be bought online and put anywhere is BS. Comparing SMR to solar on those terms is a ridiculous argument.

That won't stop politicians for jamming their renewable power down our throats, though.htline blocker

well OTH.there very good vertical solar panels being developed which would make nice boundary fences and a visual sight line blocker.

I heard an economist explain it this way. Imagine if you had a room filled waist high with shelled peanuts. You could climb in the window anytime and eat as many as you want. The shells stay in the room. Eventually there would be some still there but they would become harder to find. It also happened with whaling. New Englanders were hunting 80,000 per year, either side of 1850. It will happen with oil and with global warming.

We need to stop destroying this important resource by using it for energy, and instead preserve it for its other uses by getting our energy needs filled by renewables....

They currently building new waste storage facilities. But there is actually a better solution; breeder reactors. Unfortunately, politics are preventing using that solution.

And I am arguing that we are rapidly converging on a "right way." No reason to think that all states (well, except the states one step away from savagery and witch-burning, and we civilized folk can do nothing but shake our heads at them in pity) will have the infrastructure to recycle solar panels in the future. Probably sooner than you'd think.

You seem to be continually arguing that a not-currently-existent future technology is somehow more useful for solving problems today than a technology that exists today. The world does not work that way.

We currently have no practical infrastructure to store nuclear waste at scale. You can argue that is because of "politics" but that doesn't make the problem go away. And it wouldn't be the first time in history that a promising technology was smothered in the cradle by "politics".

If the waste from 30-year-old solar panels is a problem, you need to acknowledge that recycling a 30-year-old nuclear plant (of any kind) is also a problem. Otherwise you are just being dishonest and making yourself look foolish.

we have "yucca mtn" which should be configured to be able to retrieve nuclear waste when needed to recycle.
