Should I be disappointed? I realised today (I have no idea why I missed this before) that my forthcoming (it is on a ship, I hope) SuperCharger 2 GT Rohloff has a Performance Line CX eBike System 2 motor and not a Performance Line CX Smart System motor. I feel like I am getting an outdated motor (technology-wise) on a costly bicycle.

The motor itself is mechanically the same more or less. All they really did was put new connectors and firmware on the gen4 motors so they could move to the smart system.

Are you getting the Nyon display? If so you'll be able to program custom ride modes. It's a very functional system.

Thanks for the information. Yes, a Nylon display.

I guess I am disappointed that new features or options available for the smart system will not be available (e.g., eBike Alarm tracking) and given the price of the bike I would have thought the the smart system would have been a given. Anyway such is life.

I get your feeling, and I too always want to make sure what I buy is the latest model so it ages well.

That said, I’ve got the SC2 with your motor and my wife has the so called “smart system” on her Multi charger mixte - I don’t see too much on there to rave about to be honest. It still feels to me like Bosch is lagging in much of that stuff and poorly implementing features (eg motor immobiliser is locked to a single phone making it impossible to share a bike amongst family members if it has motor immobiliser enabled)

In my view, you’re not missing much currently (clearly all future releases and development will be on that platform however … that’s the downside )

it might get worse if you have a Rohloff....mine has failed twice now and resolution has been a nightmare. bike now been down 2 months, missing tours and no end in sight.

Curious, what has failed on the Rohloff? I installed a Rohloff on my eMTB 14 months ago. Just curious.

1st was severe leakage requiring a full hub warranty replace. Most recent has not been confirmed, but cannot shift at all. Likely e14 controller unit.

Thanks. I decided against the "e-version" shifter. The web is full of owners that have problems with those units, and for MTB riding, manual control is a must. Hope you get it resolved soon.

Awesome. Would like to get that done but living in Montana I am having a difficult time finding qualified people to convert mine.

I'd send your wheel to Peter White Cycles. He could install the manuall shift box on your wheel. There are only two Rohloff factory trained authorized service centers in the U.S., he's one of them. He's really good. He could do it for you. The whole operation on the wheel should only take an hour.
Then you could install the twist shifter and rout the cables once you get teh wheel back. It's pretty easy if you follow the video or written instructions.

FYI, here's my Rholoff installation thread

Grip Shift -Cable Routing
External Gear Mech

I know Peter White is good. Did my hub warranty replacement. This time we got no response after they told my local shop that the e-14 controller had been shipped. It takes far More than the wheel. Motor has to be removed, cables run, grip shifter. The whole bike is needed. Pretty much given up on rohloff as an option in US as service is essentially non existent and too slow. When a specific component of a bike takes it down for months at a time once a year it is time to make changes Difficult for as much as I love rohloff when it is operable. Based on my experience I don't see how I can take th Rohloff on my next tour. Once repaired will be selling and moving on to more reliable and serviceable alternatives

I don't blame you. I shy away from any kind of proprietary electronics on my bike. Sorry you had such a bad experince with the eshifter. Seems to be a major pain when it breaks down. I love the hub and could never go back to a derailler system.

Totally agree with you. Was 100% with you until my most recent tour was not only aborted 1000 miles into a planned 2,500, but then the bike being down for 2 months (with no resolution in sight) forcing cancellation of another tour I was to start on July 14 forced me to make this decision. Almost everything in biking is a trade off, like most everything in life. I'll trade being able to tour confidently over any component decision. May even go back to non electric touring like Idid for almost 50 years before switching to e-biking in 2019. Good luck with your bike. I am hopeful no one has the experience I have had.
