There is a lighter electric trike that looks promising and that actually leans into turns for greater stability/handling:

I could see this being very practical as an errand runner kind of ebike, or for anyone who is intimidated by the way a bicycle can tip over. It can come with front and rear baskets and is not really that heavy for a trike. Without the battery/motor, it only weighs 38 pounds. And the ability to lean into corners is a big plus that very few tricycles offer.
