Hi guys ,

Need some urgent help !
My voilamart rear hub motor had some strange noise today, and before that there are some strange kick back feeling( not release throttle ) when I was cruising. And I finally knew what that kick back feeling is, it go backwards !

Because , finally, it go backwards when I twist the throttle!

Do you guys have any similar experience?
What's wrong with my bike ?
Controller? or hub motor ?

Thanks

Jeff

Most likely controller. You reverse the direction of a 3 phase AC motor by switching two of the phase wires. The thick blue/yellow/green ones. If it worked right before, and you didn't switch wires by riding it, most likely something went wrong in the controller.

I dismantle the controller box, there are 2 sets of blue/yellow/green wires, 1 set is thick and the others are thin.

what should I do ?

You said switching 2 of the phase wire, any 2 ?

I am not familiar with AC motor, so please advise.

Thanks

What you do is buy a new controller. Unless you have been posting this everywhere for months, it seems like a few people lately have had this strange problem with Voilamart controllers. Been reading about it.

If you didn't go in there and flip wires around, then the Voilamart box has some weird fault, maybe a firmware bug. If it is in warranty get a new one. If not in warranty, get a new one anyway. They can't be expensive.

It's possible to rewire the three thick wires and three thin wires so it spins right, but who is to say whether the controller will flip itself again and go the other way again.

My point was, you didn't reverse the wires to make the motor turn backwards, so the controller had to be defective. I don't propose you repair a defective controller by reversing the wires. Random rotation reversal is a sign of a serious problem. Solution to problem, throw some garbage away and buy something real. Voilamart sells at a very low price point. One step up in the US is ebikeling.
