Specialized announced their commuter e-bike in 2017. Milestones for the top-of-line model:
  • 2017: U.S. Class 3/EU L1e-B Speed Pedelec, 45 km/h or 28 mph. Many parts have not changed for years (I think it has been an excellent design).
  • 2018: The fixed fork was replaced with Suntour suspension fork. That required using different front-hub and front-axle. Specialized website lists introduction of the 1.3 motor (Brose S Alu) as early as in 2018. (Hard to believe that).
    Downgrade: Cheaper drive-train.
  • 2019: Lack of trustworthy data (only a non-EU source found).
  • 2020: A breakthrough. The older BLOKS display had been a nuisance; it did not work with Mission Control either. (a) TCD-W display introduced (works with Mission Control) (b) Different stem (c) Different remote and separate horn button (d) New, excellent lighting (e) New Racktime rack.
    Still the same old good Specialized 1.2s (Brose TF) motor.
  • 2021: New Vado 6.0 not announced.
Not many things have changed in the EU S-Pedelec. The electronics overhaul has been the greatest improvement in years. And the price of the 6.0 is growing, growing, growing... What I like about Vado is has turned out to be a sustainable e-bike. You can still use the same batteries, for instance.

I think the key detail here is if you can actually get your hands on the Turbo product. It's listed as "oversold" for this year, meaning get in line!

Also of note, what is now the 5.0 in the US is what the 6.0 used to be!

Not exactly, Brendon. The EU 6.0 is different to the U.S. 5.0 in several aspects:

That's because of EU requirements for L1e-B class (moped). Also, each EU 6.0 is delivered with individual Certificate of Conformity (like a moped or motorcycle) and sports the VIN.
