When I came home from a ride today, I found my yard full of robins, and I managed to get a couple of shots of this fine fellow.

The barn swallows returned yesterday. They make high pitch squeaks and clicking sounds like dolphins or bats. I went for a wildflower ride today. Local strawberries and rhubarb are in season, so I celebrated after my ride.

When it comes to spring color, we took the nuclear option this year — a visit to the Carlsbad Flower Fields.

These are all Ranunculus varieties from 2 days ago. The Carlsbad Flower Fields is a 4-generation family floriculture operation shipping Ranunculus flowers and bulbs and poinsettia plants all over the world.

Being immersed in all that bright color was quite an experience!

This is what we woke up to this morning--freezing rain covered shrubs in our yard. Signs of spring? Not so much.
Same in Poland.

Young people of Poland carry the puppet representing the Slavic goddess of Marzanna to the next river and drown it on the first day of Spring to symbolize the end of winter.

The Carpenter Bees are back again. The area they claim each spring/summer is a free zone with me. I don't mind them. Birds are year round but I did see a squirrel today. I have multiple feeders set-up for everyone. I need to get some pictures.

We did a group ride tonight that everyone loved with lots of open space and views of the lush hills and wildflowers. I just read the OP and the barn swallows returned yesterday. They sound like dolphins and a bit like bats.

Yep, the local Turkey Buzzard flock of birds showed up today. Every year around this time they show in April and they leave in late Sept, or early Oct.
Robins have been here for almost 10 days, no Hummers yet.

I went on two rides so far today. One was a gravel loop on a peninsula with wildflowers and water foul. Then I had tandoori. The next was a large climb with views of the verdant hills to the coast. The single track down was tough because it was so rutted from the rains and the bike was a drop-bar gravel with no suspension. Another sign of Spring is all the traffic towards the beach.
