Service Woes

Husband and I purchased 2 IGo bikes a couple of years ago. We've been all over on them and loving it UNTIL.... one of the bikes got a "brake error" message and now it won't work. The store we purchased from in NYC closed last year. My husband called IGo in Canada for some tips on how to repair the problem (hubby is very good with this stuff), but now we're stuck with a bike that won't work and no I-Go service shops nearby. The closest IGo repair shop is over 2 hours away in NJ! Does anyone know of a shop that can service iGo bikes on Long Island or even Queens or Brooklyn? We're not in a financial position to start over with another company. Your thoughts would be greatly appreciated!

There's a tiny switch in each of the 2 brake lever housings that tell the electronic controls the brakes are on. It sounds like one of them might be bad, indicating the brakes are on when they are not. Have hubby unplug them to see if the error goes away.

Not as hard as it might sound, the brake switch will be at the end of the only wire in the area of the brake levers.

Thanks for the reply. Hubby has done that, but it's not the problem. If you have any other ideas we'd appreciate hearing about them.

Here is the Evelo sensor-in-brake-lever set up and troubleshooting sequence, if you have not seen it already: http://support.evelo.com/support/solutions/articles/208373-resolving-error-25-brake-sensor-issue- I post that in the hopes that your break lever is like the Evelo brake handle-with sensor & wire.

Are these types of brakes, with a sensor contained within; made by one manufacturer or several? If one, can parts and local service be found to better assist you? Of your local ebike shops, have you reached out to them to see if they can help you? This forum as well seems to have alot of info in the IGo section; then again I'm sure you and your husband have been there already.

At a minimum, if me, I would contact the company again and in a nice enough way, insist that some kind of repair resolution be reached so you can get riding again.

Service after the sale......it's not just your brand, but seemingly most Ebike brands, that are coming to the forefront after a few years after-the-sale. It's is that which is going to sink the weak; leaving only a handful of truly responsive and helpful ebike brands, left standing.

I wish you luck and please keep us informed of your outcome.

Well, from there, I would follow the harness that the brake switches plug into, down towards the controller. I would be looking for connections that look anything less than stellar, as well as areas of the harness that may have been pinched or abraded. In other words, looking for shorts or dirty connections. If this required me to pull the harness to allow a complete inspection, so be it! If nothing obvious is found, I'd likely be seeking pro service. A 4 hour round trip is going to be way less than the price of a new bike.
