Seat post security

Has anyone ditched the quick release seat post clamp for something more secure? After installing a body float I would like to see that it stays there after I return to it. This article has a few ideas. http://www.citylab.com/navigator/2015/06/how-to-not-get-your-bike-seat-stolen/396554/

I was thinking about replacing the seat post clamp and inserting a "security bolt." There seem to be a few options - allen/torx with ball bearing in the middle, a key that inserts a magnetic obstacle, a bolt that can only be removed if the bicycle is upside down, small combination tumbler attached to the bolt head, and/or installing a bike chain from the seat stays to the seat with no slack... to name a few. I don't have another rider to adjust the height with and I rarely make adjustments. I have the smaller diameter body float with a shim... as I would like to use it on a bike with a smaller tube diameter.

As with virtually all bicycle security nothing is bombproof. We intend on slowing down the thief so that he turns his attention to another less secure bike.

Does anyone have any experience here?

Thanks.

Too bad bikes aren't pickle jars. Things are nigh impenetrable.

I did like the looks of the locking bolt that requires the bike be flipped upside down. Simple, doesn't need special tools when you do want to make adjustments. Hopefully secure...

I use a Hope 38.5 clamp on my ST1. Agreed that the stock QR is ridiculous when everything else on the bike is bolted down.

Since the collar won't keep my St2 seat post in place I am looking for a quick release to replace the factory set up so I an readjust quickly. My bike is never out my sight petty much when not at home

In my ST1, I had to cut a soda can shim to make the seatpost stop slipping. The bike already came with an aluminum insert that went between the seatpost and frame. The soda can shim can be put in between the insert and frame. I also used some assembly paste. No more slipping.

I still have my ST1 stock seatpost QR collar. Happy to send it to you for a few bucks if it fits your ST2.
