Road ID

I don't think about this much, this time of year, but I do in winter when the weather is nasty. That really doesn't come into play, as you can be run off the road or hit by a car at anytime! Not only is a Road ID a good idea for an accident, but if you have any medical problem you want known should you be found this little item could be a life saver.

Expensive. I thought about getting a large dog tag engraved at the flea market vendor (costs about $5 in my area) and using that.

I didn't think $20 was bad considering the amount of information they will put on it and how well it's made.

If the first responders scrape me off the road, they'll know who to call .

The real trick is to keep that from happening in the first place! Think positive, ride naked.

I was almost given (show special price) an Epic ID at Interbike last year. Cheap silicon wrist band connected to a USB drive that contains all my vital info. I never ride without it. Something like 25 or 30 at bike shops or you can probably order on line. Not connected to a public database service but road medics are trained to look for such and carry mobile computers for this very purpose.

A quick glance at the Epic, that's cool! Waterproof, salt-waterproof! I haven't read the entire description yet and my only real initial question would be what program (file ext.) do you write the information to for retrieval by first responders. I'm sure the Epic ID site has all that info though.

Okay well... after saying "no way," I broke down and ordered a RoadID. It got here today. And I must say, it's quite nice! I ordered it in purple.

J.R., you keep posting things you find and then I keep spending $$. One of us has got to stop!

Did you have anything fun engraved on yours?
Even after listing my Mom and my former Wife as emergency contacts, I had two extra lines.
So I put my blood type on one and used the last one to say "Old as Dirt."
Purple sounds pretty cool. Mine's yellow cuz' I tend to lose sh**.

Actually not so brilliant. I work with a nurse and she told me they have to type your blood before they'll give you any, even if you (or your Road ID) tells them what it is.
So don't worry about leaving it off yours.

I like the idea of a bracelet better then carrying my id around-- tend to lose things if they are not attached!
