I have a Bosch Active Line Plus ebike. that I keep in an unheated garage, although I keep the battery in the house when I’m not riding. In Chicago it gets cold. What is the lowest reccomended riding temperature for that motor? Ed

According to everything I have ever read on Batteries : Heat is harder on them then Cold : Granted if you had a battery in a cold Garage and just store it > That wouldn't be Good :

Hi EdC! I agree with Rick53 that heat is going to be harder on the cell chemistry and limit the number of full charge cycles you get over the life of the battery pack... but extreme cold will severely limit the one-time range that you get. I cannot comment on the "lowest recommended riding temperature of the motor" but am guessing that there could be some grease or other lubricants that become more viscus with low temps and thus, less efficient. If you're storing the battery inside, that's the best first step. I personally would not worry too much about low temperatures on the motor, and would feel reassured by the great two year comprehensive Bosch warranty and vast network of dealers who can help provide warranty support. I hope this helps! Let me know if the motor completely freezes up and locks or something crazy... and post pictures :D
