Removing chain ring and casing to gain access to the clutch.

I have a 3+ year old 750 bbsoI or2 and I think the clutch has gone. The motor will work ok when not under load but slips with a ratchety noise when I try to ride it. Research on google and Youtube suggests this is probably the the clutch which fits as the noise comes from the chain ring side of the motor. I have removed the crank arm and the 7 small screws holding the motor case in place but cannot remove the chain ring or the motor caseing inside of it. There are no screws or bolts holding the chain ring in place and I,m very reluctant to use brute force for fear of cracking the casing. has anyone had this problem and found the answer. I would appreciate an early answer as my bike is not only my sole means of transport but I really miss riding it. Look forward to hearing from you. Thanks

Go to YouTube and search for a BBS02 tear down. bbs02 clutch replacement

Thanks Thomas. It turns out I have a bbso2 which is unfortunate as the hd model clutch replacement is a very easy 10 min job requiring a few simple tools but mine is much more complicated requiring tools I dont have. However with the help of the youtube video you recommended I think I can do it so many thanks for the tip. To anyone thinking of buying a bafang mid drive - go for the HD model, it's so much easier to repair.

Hi all, an update on my recent post. Having with some difficulty managed to remove the freewheel. was faulty and the teeth of the large drive wheel were very worn. However the real problem is that the outer casing fell apart and is shattered beyond repair. I,ve never dropped the bike and its kept indoors so I can only think that the pedal of another bike hit it as the drive failed immediately after it had been parked in a bike rack for 2 hours in the centre of town .Or possibly the clutch and drive jammed and caused it ?
I now want to buy a new bafang bbs02 750 48v mid drive motor but without out the rest of the kit but can't find anyone who sells the motor on its own and would appreciate any advice . Also the motor is 4yrs old, is there a new and better motor on the market now that will fit in the set up I have now for instance would the HD model work and what if any would the pro's and con's be.

Many BBSxx series dealers sell "bare motors". You'd buy the latest BBS02B and it plug and play.

Thanks again Thomas. Do you know whether or not the HD motor can de used with my current set up and controller and if so what the pros and cons would be of buing an HD motor?

Yes. A BBSHD is a plug and play choice.
