R & M not built as specified?

Hi All:
I think I read a thread about R&M not delivering a bike as specced... can't find it.
I have a new Multicharger that is specced by R&M as having Magura MT5 and Magura MT4 brakes. The front brake has "5" on the lever while the rear has "MT." I've reached out to Magura asking them to help me identify the rear "MT" brake... I suspect it is an MT Sport.
I welcome any insights that you folks would offer. Thanks!

Well, those are different photos pal... You have to give us a chance....

The levers are MT5 - or the same as come on an MT5.... That rear caliper looks to be single piston, so must be MT4.. The front one looks correct - MT5.

So yeah maybe someone has made a mistake at the factory.

Magura has a couple of calipers they brand differently and put different levers or pads in. What you have is the MT5 front 4-piston caliper with Type 9.C (comfort) pads in the front. In the rear, that caliper corresponds to a 2-piston MT4-type caliper that is their budget version, known as the MT Sport. It has the Type 7.C pads.

The difference between an MT4 and MT Sport is the pads, the color caps over the pistons... and marketing. Change the coating on the same caliper, upgrade the pads and give it the MT7 levers and you have an MT8 Pro.

When you get your pads worn down, step up to the Type 8.S pads in the front, or the Type 8.P. Type 8 pads are spec'd for the MT7 but the calipers are the same (again, change the cap color, the pads and the levers and poof... MT5 is an MT7).

The 4-piece pads have been tested to provide additional torque onto the rotor, and Maguras have great modulation out of the box so you won't have any issues there.

I did get a response from Magura Tech Support in the US

Hello Paul, your message has been passed to me from Magura Germany and I’m Glad to respond.

The MT Trail Sport set is actually a MT5 front and MT4 rear with the exception of the lever blades; the Trail Sport is equipped with HC1 one finger lever blades as opposed to two finger lever blades for the Standard MT5 and MT4. If you’ll look on the underside of the rear lever, I believe you’ll find a “4”.

So, again, thanks to you both for the info. I'm going to scamper down and look at the underside of the rear lever.

Checked the underside of the rear brake handle and there it is... a "4" with a tiny "four" next to it. I had to use the magnifier app on my phone to read it. So, it is a MT4 on the rear and an MT5 on the front. When it comes time to get new pads, I will explore m@Robertson's helpful suggestion. Thanks again (also) MartsEbike.
