On my Gazelle Medeo T9, is it possible to loosen it and pull it up so it is higher? I know there are angle adjustments, but I wonder if I can make it higher. Thanks for any information.
Modern bikes no longer have a bar stem insert, rather they slip over the top of the fork tube and clamp. The spacers provided can be placed above or below the bar stem to adjust for height as well. If you need more height then a taller stem or bars with a rise are in order. 31.8 bars are rather inexpensive as well, easy swap out.
I've changed out my stem and bars for more height on my mountain bike, put all the spacers under the stem. This eases that hunched-over feeling for my rice-krispies back. You know, snap crackle and pop.
I sort of follow what you are saying, but not totally. I get that the handlebar stem is now clamped down. What I don't understand is what you did to alleviate the low handlebars? Sorry for being so dense......but I just don't understand what you are trying to explain to me.
I put one of these Fork Extension on my bike and have put about 2000 miles on it since without issue.
I also shortened my stem from 110mm to 60mm to bring the handlebars closer and am in the process of shortening it even further and changing out the handlebars to one with a greater sweep back to reduce my lean forward even more.
A few things to know...
With the extension I wouldn't ride the bike on hard off-road trails as I don't think it as strong as the original setup.
You may need to replace cables depending on how high you rise it and how much slack your current cables have.
The steering geometry changes and it takes a little getting used to, so go slowly at first. I didn't find it drastic and was comfortable with it after the first ride.
I'll post a few pics on my next ride.
