March 2025 report. 2400 miles

Summary
After considerable hassle to resolve issues, I am loving this bike. I have owned 3 e-bikes and I was excited to buy a bike that had all the features I wanted. I am sharing my experience so others can make a more informed decision when purchasing this model.

Warranty – Don’t make assumptions, that it is the same as other manufacturers. They hide warranty terms on their website. Search for “warranty” won’t find it, but they are eager to provide an extended warranty for 11% more.
Not covered under warranty from Biktrix website:
  • Their trial period return would have cost me $1037 US$ minimum to return my bike, so it makes no sense to return if unhappy.
  • Shipping charges are on the customer for all replacement/ serviced parts.
  • Shipping charges are on the customer for items that need to be sent to Service Centre for repairs/ returns.
Bike shop fees are on the customer for the removal, installation and or replacement of a part on the e-Bike.
Shipping charges are non-refundable under all circumstances.
Warranty is not transferable.
Repetitive warnings to use professional bike services for replacing parts and adjustments to uphold warranty.

My experience with warranty - they loosened up on shipping charges for parts and returning the motor.
Issues:
  • During one of my first test rides, I got stranded, having to walk several hills over a 5 mile stretch to return home. Amongst listed features is a battery gage (% charge and remaining miles estimate/range). It dropped from 50% to 7% in 3 miles that was mostly downhill. They confirm these readings are “not applicable for accurate tracking and to use voltage reading of 44V” to trigger battery recharge, but it shuts down at 45.4 V. Their response to a fix is, “modifications cannot be made.” My other e-bikes had working battery gage.
  • They confirmed that the throttle functions with PA0 setting, prior to me placing my order. This is the most important feature to me. I want it to operate like a unpowered bike on flat trails for exercise. But I want the throttle to help with short inclines hills and taking off from stops. It took tens of hours of my time, over a 5 month stretch, including 2 months downtime (return motor for troubleshooting) for Biktrix to confirm they cannot deliver what was promised. If I wanted a scooter, I would have bought one. I’m was stuck with a bike I didn’t want. In desperation, I researched programming online and resolved the issue that they and Bafang gave up on.
  • Shifting while going uphill is troublesome. The motor stops between shifts, causing slowdown or stops on hills.
  • For safety on public roads, I want the taillight on, but he display dims from max to the point that it cannot be read on a sunny day with sunglasses on. I had to purchase a battery-operated taillight.
  • Customer support totally misunderstood my straightforward questions on 3 occasions, putting me through hours of unnecessary road testing.
  • The motor was noisy compared to another bike with 750 watt center drive motor, but after a lot of miles noise is very low.
  • The bike is too heavy for a senior or average person to manage. Getting it on a bike rack requires strength. Turning over to work on it is very difficult. Removing the battery helps, but finding a good grip to handle the weight is difficult.
  • With seat at maximum height, handlebars are too low to meet recommended level, but I learned to live with that.
Best features:
  • The riding experience and workmanship are excellent.
  • It has gobs of power and rolls over the steepest hills without struggling. I use it with PA1 or PA3 for nearly all my travels in the Cascades foothills.
  • I love the ability to choose any color.
  • Powder coat is excellent. It is durable and sharp looking.
  • Welding appears perfect.
  • Support is quick to respond, but misunderstandings take time to resolve.
  • My test drive for standard battery capacity gave me 42.1 miles, over 4904 vertical feet total climb at 10.1 average MPH round trip. That is better than my previous e-bikes including one with a 20 ah battery.
  • Second mileage test June 2024 got 41.3 miles and 3410 vertical feet total climb to deplete the battery.
They did offer some labor (have tens of hours into fixes) compensation in the form of Biktrix parts in exchange for closing my case.
