Problem after turbo remote install on Creo

After install of the turbo remote buttons on my Creo carbon at my LBS (Specialized dealer) it’s developed a problem. All functioned as designed during first two rides but on my third ride this is what is now happening: I can turn on the bike using the original top tube button, however I cannot turn it off (it goes off on its own by design after a while) or change the support levels on the top button. My remote buttons click but nothing happens. Since I switched the default support to Eco through Mission Control and that is what I use pretty much exclusively, it did not impact my ride. I will of course take it back to my LBS and expect they can take care of it but wondered if anyone has any guesses I can offer them to hopefully get things resolved. Thanks.

I would suspect that they wired something wrong. I wonder if something came disconnected. I think there is something like a headphone jack and/or socket under the top tube contraption that the button wiring plugs into. I've not looked at mine.

I do have an easier time lowering the power and a bit harder time raising the power using the buttons.

The road remote has a cable that plugs into the system underneath the TCU and that cable goes to the box the buttons plug into. The plug to the system has several pins and there is an alignment mark on the plug.

It is easy to check but I would not try to do anything but take it back to the install shop just in case something is damaged in the system. Just for reference you can see the parts in the amaincycling page.

Just to wrap up this thread, it turned out that my road remote was defective & Specialized sent a new set to my LBS.

I find my UP remote is very directional sensitive. I have to hit it just right or it does not respond well. The DOWN remote is much more responsive.

Do most shops install the remotes under the bar tape unless otherwise requested by the customer? Just wondering if covering them up affects their functionality to some degree? I did my own install and located them near/at the drop bar bends but left them exposed.

Mine were installed under the bar tape, the actual ability to find & click on the button wasn’t a problem once I knew where to push. I do like the clean look under the tape but that may differ with someone else.

I don't know if there's any standard. Mine are under the tape and as I reported in another thread, after a few months of use, suddenly I lost the ability to change the power. I could not increase/decrease, using the buttons nor could I use the top tube controller either. And I also could not turn the power completely off using the top tube thingamajig! The shop reported that they thought that the buttons had been wrapped too tight. I was able to power down using both top tube buttons together and holding till it powered off. Then it would power on normally but still could not change up or down.

The latest is that problems to my remote button install continues. The original non working buttons were replaced by a new set from Specialized, however, the new set also failed so now a new center TCU is being sent as that would appear to be the problem. If all works then I’ll have to re synch the new TCU with my app. If it still doesn’t work I’m giving up on the remote buttons and just going back to using the top tube controls.

When mine stopped working, the shop found that the tape was wound too tight around the button(s) and that put continuous pressure on one or both of them. (fingers crossed) they have been working since they were re-wrapped.

Thanks! I‘m pretty sure they were tested prior to wrapping but I’m going to double check on it, really appreciate the feedback.
