Plastic free lunchboxes for rear panniers?

I once used an aluminum camera case. From the used pile at the back of the large photography shop. Plastic free makes it difficult, why is that a requirement.

i mean… other than its poisoning our planet.

I'm not sure what you mean by vertical layout but if you Google "metal lunchbox for bike riding", there are quite a few available.

Everything has more than one use. I once used a tall, metal, to go coffee mug. I boiled some water and poured it in to heat the mug up. Then I made pasta, with pesto. I poured out the hot water from the mug and put the pasta in. The pasta stayed warm 8 hours later. When I got to my destination (was hiking in to camp) I had a nice warm pasta dinner. The cup was 21oz, so it was a filling meal.

Mason jars would work as well. You might find “stackable Tupperware” to be a nice find. Lots of vertical options. Note the dimensions and cut out some cardboard to be sure they can fit in your bag.

Lunchboxes usually sport an horizontal layout, thus, unless they're 100% sealed, leakage will occur.
Vertical layout, with multiple containers would help avoiding spilling? Of course , solid seals would make a difference...

Tupperware has plastic covers. I have many of these at hone

Good luck with your quest. This is the only thing that comes to mind.

But even these will have a rubber seal... I don't think you can avoid that.

Hello! Are you aware of any good quality metal/glass lunchboxes, plastic free, sealed, which are suitable fro rear panniers? Vertical layout?
Silicone snap-lock containers like the ones @PCeBiker pointed out above have a lot of appeal for your use case.

I share your concerns about microplastics, but make sure that's a problem with food-grade silicone before rejecting that material.

We've used the same set of borosilicate glass-bottomed Snap-locks (original brand) for over 20 years. Stackable, absolutely leak-proof, and the glass is hard to break.

That said, I'd never carry glass on a bike personally. In a crash, you could end up on top of a pannier with broken glass inside. Or the pannier might pop open, releasing broken glass right where you're about to land.

I HATE glass !!

It's heavy and dangerous.
I only clean my bike chain in a Plastic peanut butter jar. 😁

(I must have cut myself on broken glass more than a hundred times since I was a kid.
I buy my beer in cans as well, even though it might be contaminated with aluminum?)
