Orbea Diem running light

Hi. I've taken delivery of an Orbea Diem 10 and I can't get the running light to turn back on. I was going through the user manual and tried the 3 different modes on the side button. As far as I know the light was working when I left the bike last night, but on powering up this morning the running light no longer appears to function, and I'm getting no 'flashes' when pressing the button. The button however does appear to be doing something because with a bit of fiddling I can get the main light to work via the low/high beam remote button. My local dealer doesn't have a workshop slot until October 2nd, so I'm wondering if I'm missing something here? If this is a software issue is there some sort of factory reset I can perform myself? As I said I'm pretty sure I'm activating this properly, and yes, I do know that the bike should start in the mode it was switched off. Thanks guys...

Wow, I wasn't aware of this model. What a beautifully designed bike. Does Orbea have an app for it? If so, check that first. If not, the Shimano EP6 motor is set up and controlled by the Shimano E-Tube Cyclist app. Try that. Pair the bike and see if there is anything in there for the lights, as they are a part of the motor ecosystem. If you have the option, change the lighting to full manual or last state. Good luck.

That is a really interesting design. I’m maybe missing something in the translated pages, but I don’t see this bike on their web site.

Sorry, no idea how to interact with the thing. But, good luck!

Thank you Stompandgo! This is the first ebike I've actually owned. I was a conventional rider for many years, but gave up a couple of years back when my knee started giving me problems. Earlier this year though a friend let me try his ebike and I found that life changing! I tried Gazell, Trek, Cube and R&M bikes (and they were all great) before deciding on the Diem, and I'm reallly impressed with this bike for power (85Nm), handling and weight (no suspension saves a ton of weight), not to mention the looks - it gets great comments wherever I go...

Anyway, to comment on your suggestion... This is the EP8 motor and it uses the E-Tube Ride app (slightly different from the old E-Tube app as I found out), and this monitors the lights (on/off indication), but does not directly contol them. I'm booked in with the main dealer so hopefully they'll sort it out and I'll post the solution here.

Thanks again

Welcome aboard! Hope you get your headlight sorted.

We'd love to see your bike and the places you ride. My 3 favorite forum threads are the ones for sharing ride photos.

NB: There's a 2 MB file size limit on uploaded images.

OK so jumping back in my own thread... The problem with the running light seems to have sorted itself out, but I'm no nearer understanding why this happened. The battery was showing full on the app (and it was), but after some comments on Reddit I put the bike back on charge for a while. This seems to have reset whatever problem there was and the running light illuminated on the next power up. I'm still booked in with my local dealer in October so I'll see if their diagnostics show anything.

Btw - for those who asked, this is one of the rides about a mile from home. I never thought I'd do this again with a duff knee, but the ebike changed everything... (Not my video)

Thanks! We have one big blessing in common: Beautiful coast rides right from home! Mine are in Southern California, on the San Diego County coast north of San Diego proper. Example here.

Where was this video shot?

It was a long time ago, but I loved San Diego! Great people, fab climate, amazing drinks, plus we were lucky enought to be there for food week in the Gaslamp area! Unfortunately I didn't see too much of the rest of SD county, or even much of the SoCal coastline from (iirc) the Pacific Highway, but we did get down to the beach somewhere around Torrey Pines when driving down from LA. My wife and I are over halfway through visiting every state (30 so far) but we're avoiding the US while the current admin is in place (sorry), however we really must try to get back somtime and tour properly - especially as I've heard SD is opening a Navy Seal museum next month...

Anyway, I live where the video was shot - Llandudno - in beautiful North Wales in the UK. The video was of a route around a headland known as the Great Orme - the Orme itself has mineworkings going back to the bronze age, and there's Roman and Victorian mines up there too, but it's just a great spot to chill and watch the world (and seals!)

Btw this is what I drive past every day - around a mile from home...

Also a bit further afield we have the Snowdonia National Park

Hope you liked the pics as much as I enjoyed seeing SoCal!
