NH ebike trail ban bill.

JFC, that's insane. Does everything need to be a highway? I used to go to camp there in the mid-late 90s. I guess he doesn't care about anyone else's enjoyment of the water, not to mention the increased noise for everyone living nearby. Couldn't imagine sailing, canooing, windsurfing, etc. near 65 mph traffic. Also remember it getting crowded way back then...

Just looked up Trottier and he definitely seems like a me-first Axiom Human.
i didn't know boats could even go that fast, outside of pretty exotic powerboat racing!

like a class 7 ebike 😄

My bike can exceed the speed limit, but in the rare occasions I mix with the public, I ride like a grandad, I'm old, I have no desire and its electric, I have nothing to prove.

Its mostly the timeless change of priorities and awareness that age brings.
Reckless youth morphs into safety conscious.
Not for myself of course.
I worry about everyone else.
The only thing I have to prove is that I have nothing to prove.

It states, so what

"I. Any class of electric bicycle capable of speeds of 15 mph or faster with the assistance of electric motor and battery power shall:"

The few spoil it for the many again so ban all

If people want to ride like scum then get a MOTORbike and go were they are ok NOT where people and CHILDREN and others on OL bikes go

I'm trying to get my head around the reasons behind e-bikes being banned on some trails and not others. I'll be honest there is no e-bike banning that i am aware of in NZ. It appears mainly to be a US thing?

Anyway what are that actual reasons?

Here is what i can come up with.

  • The possibility of fire. This could be of significant risk/concern to a forestry owner. One e-bike battery failure could burn down 20 years of income.

  • out of date legislation banning Motorized vehicles in that particular park and an e-bike is considered a motorised vehicle

  • Litigious reasons.. A motorised thing hits a not motorised thing and the big dick swinging lawyers are engaged (the would be a "only in the us" thing).

  • Trail wear. I call BS on this. In the fact that trails are there to be used and will wear, E bikes provide more usedbut don't rip the trail up noticeably more than a standard bike.

  • Additional uphill speed. I call BS on this too. The differential in uphill speed that e-bike can do is less than the differential in speed between a good and bad descender. So increased up speed is also moot.

Actually that's, it that's all I cam come up with.

So the only actual reason i can fathom for banning e-bikes is risk of fire in a forest and maybe out of date legislation Anything else is just pseudo bullshit reasons.
I'm not sure about other countries but here in the US, conventional bicycle purists or "spandexers" have some regulatory influence in many locations. They take any incident, however minor, to government officials in the hopes of getting these bans enacted, in order to rid their precious trails & MUPS of the hated e-bikes.
