New York State ebike legislation

I would like to see someone challenge the ticket if riding an ebike that is compliant to HR727 under the claim that an LSEB is federally defined as a bike (the states have always wanted to declare that anything with a motor is a motor vehicle but that is simply not the case and this needs to be challenged sooner or later. I have a document going back to 1997 that details the intent of HR727 to establish an "low speed electric bicycle" as a subcategory of bike.

Is NY paying attention to what the real problems are with cars such that they recognize that the more people that get out of cars and use ebikes and escooters for mobility is a good thing. I understand that pedestrians are going to complain about having the share infrastructure with escooters and ebikes but in reality how many accidents have their been?

and you know what…if they want to keep people riding ebikes and escooters out of parks or the west side bikeway, then do something about all the cars that double park in bike paths now. I can’t tell you how many times I have to ride into traffic because of a double parked car in a bike lane, then see cops pass by and not do a damn thing. I ride through parks because it’s actually safer sometimes than riding on a street because drivers don’t look for bikers, or don’t care about bike lanes. This city needs to go after the REAL problem. Unreal man and so bloody frustrating.

Any one planning to go to NY,? Just one more reason not to!!

HOW Can this idiots (the ones who made and pass the law) have the audacity to impose such rules when most people who are using the Escooters/Ebikes are the essential workers or people who actually have needs and r contributing to:

- lowering the emmissions
- decongestion
- less society stress overall
-less car accidents
- increased lifestill happiness ⭐💕😁😁😁
- less taxes, insurance, gas $$$
- MORE $$$$& in OUR pockets !!!!😬😁
- Increase revenue for the businesses as a result of people having more dollars saved from not using cars/public transport
- better Health
-Increase life expectancy
- less $$$$$$$ for the Ny PD As a result of not being able to issue ANY tickets for illegal parking , illegal stopping, illegal turning , illegal driving , illegal Honking, illegal texting, illegal lights, dui, dwi, ???

ONCE Macy biggest store in midtown will close, it will be pretty much over. A lot of financial companies have moved to FL.

Here is what happens. There are simply some people that do not like bike or ebikes anywhere people are walking. These people gave up on complaining about bikes on MUPs but ebikes gave them a new opportunity to start their Karen whining and complaining. The city will get tons of complaints (many times the same people calling in complaining over and over again) about reckless ebikers and scooter riders such that the city actually believes there is a problem so they end up feeling compelled to do something. Balancing the access is not easy but they can simply set rational bike/ebike speed limits on MUPs without neutering e-mobility products to the point they are not viable mobility products.

I think ebikers are going to have to stand up united a bit and start pushing back. Ebikes are the most efficient way ever created to get from point A to B so this tech should be embraced by every city as a way to solve issues but the chronic haters are winning the legislative battle.

I asked for a spot on this site where to look for a location to ride, or not ride, I see one not to .

Gothamist reports a second attempt to pass legislation permitting New York City to lower the speed limit on streets from 25-20mph failed in the NY State Assembly. The bill, "Sammy's Law", had already passed the state senate, was supported by the Mayor, the Governor, and the City's Dept of Transportation, already had 60 co-sponsors in the Assembly including 36 from New York City, and advocates had secured pledges of support from 99 of 150 Assembly members. This was a bill that was going to pass. However the Assembly speaker caved to pressure from a dozen Assembly members representing the five boroughs, who refused to back the bill citing unrelated driver issues around speed bumps and e-bike regulation, brought by their funders/lobbyists.
