Hello, I’m an 63 year old itinerant inventor. Built a fat tire ebike 5 years ago then bought this Haibike full fat six. Best thing I did for my health and well being ever ( as you all already know). I ride this ATV monster everywhere, as we van camp a lot all around the west. In my opinion it’s the perfect ride for me.
Weight is not an issue with me because I almost never go through a battery on my day trips. When I start bike camping I will either do a single track trailer or expand my rack system. I’m also an ultralight backpacker so the equipment should transfer well.
Here are the areas of design I am looking into.
1) rack for a full suspension fat tire bike. It needs to move with the suspension, be a strong as the other parts of the bike, stop mud and water, and expand Longer when needed to accommodate longer loads. Between rear panniers and the rack I hope to keep the front of the bike clear.
2) we have a pop top camper van. Ive owned all the hitch mounted flip down or swing away designs. Finally I broke down and built my own based around an aluminess rear bumper. I can still go into parking garages, stay within my mirrors, keeps the depth for 2 bikes less than the handle bars and they swing away easily. The weight of the bike rests on the rear tire and an adjustable bike clamp holds the frame. Eventually the bottom bracket will swing up when not used. The receiver hitch is still useable and the rack is rock solid for off road.
sorry had to add some beauty shots as well...
