This website https://www.bosch-ebike.com/us/service/productcombinations#driveUnits has some interesting things on it, like mention of a "Performance Line Sport" motor.

Most interesting to me is that it looks like next year, the smartphone hub will no longer be supported with Performance Line Speed. So cobi.bike is out, too. Wish they had done that this year so my Allant 8s would have come with a better device...

Is replacing the SH with Nyon 21 a viable option for you?

Nah, Bosch just mirrored the EU version of that page and didnt correct it for the US. As you know since you have a performance line speed and SPH the combo works in the US. It's not supported in EU for regulatory reasons with speed pedelecs.

But yes, the SPH is clearly a zombie product at this point.

I don't think you're correct. Note the tab for Bosch eBike System Two. That's new this year, as is the reference to Performance Line Sport. But I agree about the Zombie product. I hope folks like trek dump it for next year.

There is something in here. EU law reads an S-Pedelec has to be equipped with a non-removable speedometer. U.S. rules are different.

It's not new, system 2 has been around since something like 2014-2015. It's the system your gen4 bike and my gen2 bike both use. I assume the original gen1 drive units used System One, but I wasn't around then. They have to spell out system two now that they are introducing the smart system that is not compatible with all the current offerings. Look at the CX page and you see a tab for System Two and a tab for the new smart system.

You know when you have to have tables to show which combinations of drive units, displays, and batteries are compatible with each other that your product line is too muddied.

Hi all!

@BlackHand is correct... it's EU info that found its way onto the page. SPH and speed DUs are not compatible in the EU as the Cobi app allows the user to navigate away from the screen that displays current speed, even while riding. This is not an issue in NA as there is not a law that says speed must be displayed at all times when in motion. Keep in mind- OEMs decided what mix of products to spec on their eBikes, so their choices may vary by model and region. In most cases, we do not know what Bosch display will be used on a particular OEM model until it shows up on the sales floor at your dealer.

@retiredNH my apologies for the confusing documentation. The combination of SPH and a speed DU, or any other existing combo for that matter, will never be removed from a compatibility matrix (save for some extreme outside situation that I cannot imagine?) It will eventually get to the point where it is no longer considered a current model year product, which is when the min. 7 year support period starts. Software updates will be for bug fixes, etc., but not adding features.

General FYI:

System 1: Gen1 DU- EU only

System 2: Gen2, Gen3, Gen4 DU- all major regions (that I'm aware of)

System 3 (aka smart system):
Gen4 CX DU (same hardware, new software and connectors), not compatible with System 2. More products scheduled in the coming years.

Not on my version of cobi.bike. It always displays in the lower left no matter what other screen is being displayed. Is there more than one version? Must be. Maybe the German one is different, for example? Or French?

Want me to post some pictures?

Who are the customers of Bosch anyway? Manufacturers or consumers? We consumers can't really buy any Bosch stuff from Bosch, can we? So this advertising push for the new generation seems odd, almost designed to antagonize those of us who have the older, now obsolete equipment. Does Shimano treat end users the same way?

We're in an age where for most electronic, software driven products, we expect continuous improvement from manufacturers, not a WYSIWYG attitude. But that doesn't seem to be Bosch's current approach. Instead, users like me are stuck with dead end hardware.
