New Pace 500 Special Edition Won’t Turn On... Help!

I’ve got a call into Aventon, but as you all know they are swamped and they’ll get back to me at some point I guess. Here’s my problem: my new Pace 500 Special Edition, which has been working fine, has suddenly stopped working. It won’t turn on.... as in it won’t respond to pressing the ON button on the handlebar and the LCD display remains dark. The battery is fully charged and works fine on my wife’s Pace 500 and installing her battery on my bike doesn’t help.

Does the LCD display unit also serve as the motor controller? Or is that a separate device hidden away in the frame somewhere? Is this failure to turn on a know issue?

I’m guessing this isn’t going to be solved until Aventon gets involved, but maybe there are some ideas out there that I can use to try and resolve this on my own. Thanks.

I struggled to turn mine on as well until someone suggesting just pressing the button twice, rather than holding it down for a long time. Probably too simple a solution to your issue especially since it worked in the past and your wife has one as well but I just thought I’d throw it out there in case it helps.

Yes, saw that ‘press twice’ solution elsewhere and tried that — to no avail. But thanks for chiming in.

The display is not the controller. You can see a picture of a replacement controller on their website. I suspect the controller is near the base of the battery, but just guessing. The controller has a lead that goes right to the motor. Try following that into the bike. https://www.aventon.com/products/aventon-pace-500-controller

Ah, well that clears up one thing for me. Thanks for tip; I’ll try hunting down the controller. Maybe a loose wire.

Update: I understand now the controller is a separate device, and perhaps it has failed. I see a replacement controller is offered by Aventon, so presumably it’s accessible. I’m guessing it’s under the black plastic housing on the underside of the angled frame member that holds the battery. But how does that housing/cover come off? I don’t see any obvious screws and I don’t want to pry it off for fear of damaging it.

Will be good when Aventon gets caught up with things and can provide real support in real time.

Loose wire (anywhere), blown fuse or dead controller.

I’ve checked all the visible/accessible wire connections and find no issues. Don’t know where the fuses are located, as they’re not referenced in the provided manuals. I suspect a dead controller, but again, no mention of it in manuals, or online anywhere for that matter, so not sure where it is or how to check it. Sigh.

Update: Aventon finally got back to me and they have concluded as well that it’s probably a bad controller. A replacement is on its way. They described the location of the controller (in frame below bottom battery mount) and I’ve gotten the old one out, awaiting the new one. Fingers crossed.

Hi all, I used my Aventon Pace 500 3 times and the battery will not charge!
nit should be under warranty but who knows how long that will take to get a new one out!
many idea where I can purchase a new battery as a back up?
move looked on the Aventon site and they are sold out!
can any other batteries be used?
