New Bosch emtb motor

We have all heard about the improved motor for emtb's from Bosch. It will use a normal (relatively) front chainring and reduce or eliminate resistance over 20 mph. Lighter too! But...when will these ship?

I hadn't heard about that! Any chance you're referring to the TQ motor on the new Haibike Flyons?

It's the new Active line plus motor. The 2019 model of Izip peak has this motor.

The motor is inferior for any kind of m mountain biking. Less torque and power. Bosch CX would assist upto 300% but not this one.
When they used a smaller chainring, the shift detection worked well but it's not as good with this normal chainring. The good thing is, there is not much drag. This motor is good for city/pleasure riding.

I don't know if Bosch is releasing 500W mid-drive. Such a drive would be illegal in the EU, which is their primary market.

I think he’s talking about the long awaited replacement to the CX. It’s rumored for this summer...

My guess: May 2020 for the US. Seems logical given that the drive most likely won’t be on 2019 bikes.

I am talking about the CX replacement! A Bosch insider told me that July/August was a good timeframe, but would that be 2020's or last rung of 2019's; which wouldn't make much sense.

What's the "backpedal function?" Bosch's ebike system site mentions it as some kind of exciting feature, but I can't find an explanation about it anywhere!

Here is the brief quote from Bosch - It also features a backpedal function which helps you to brake without wearing down your pads. Translation - it uses the motor to slow the bike, similar to a Chevy Bolt. However, I don't believe it has a regen function, as in adding a slight charge to the battery; again as the Chevy Bolt does.

Thanks! Did I miss that on the website?

Backpedal is for coaster brakes which are still quite popular in some parts of Europe. Regenerative braking won’t work on a mid-drive even in this scenario since bikes have free wheels so when you pedal backwards the wheel still goes forward, like when you’re going downhill and you stop pedaling or pedal backwards.
