New bikes transport to home!

Hi Everyone,
I am going to go pick up 2 bikes tomorrow. I have a Jeep Renegade so will need to rent something. Do you think I will be able to load them easily into a 4x8 or a 5x8 enclosed cargo trailer? I will have another person to help me and I am pretty sure there are multiple places low, middle and high that I can tie them to if I stand them up side by side. Just don't want to have them all banged up on the trip home. I could rent an open trailer also. I was just thinking maybe enclosed would be better. If I had an open one I might be able to lay them down.

Thanks!
Amy

I would lay them down and use moving blankets. Unless you can strap them upright where they won’t contact each other, that would be better....not sure what options and equipment you have for this move. If nothing else assume they’re going to get bounced around unless welll secured/protected....

I could rent a U-haul enclosed trailer and stand them upright and then strap them in really well. That's what I was thinking. I'm afraid if I lay them down, the trailer will bounce around too much.

Wow! Two Comos and your LBS didn’t even offer to deliver them to your house. Not much customer service there! My LBS picks up and delivers bikes, not only for new bike purchases but for major service as well. Advantage of small town lining I guess.

Geez, stand them up, long side horizontal, if you're able. Laid on they're sides, you may be laying them on the derailleur, which is just asking for trouble. Even if you guessed which way to lay the bottom bike so it was not on the derailleur, the weight of the second bike on top will still be doing it's best to bend that bottom bike.

I LOVE road trips like this where I can save enough on freight to pay for my gas!

Congrats on your new ebikes! Maybe a photo?

Glad I read your posting twice. At first I thought you were trying to fit two Comos inside a Jeep Renegade. Now THAT would be an accomplishment.

Is it possible that some of the rental trailers would have an inside rack or support structure so you could latch/bungee the bikes standing up?

Any friends with pickups? Most of our friends have ginormous pickups and would help, even for a beer or two. 😋

Many great miles and adventures to you both.
