Need some help on new front wheel

I bought a new rim and setup the tire, etc.

After putting it in the fork, 110X15 Boost with a thru axle QR and a Mavic hub, I noticed side to side play,
If I grab the top of the wheel and wiggle it back and forth it moves a noticeable amount.

I've reseated the hub in the fork and tried a couple different amounts of tightness on the QR lever.
Nothing helps.

I put the old wheel back in and it does the same thing.
I tried moving the axle on the wheel not mounted on the bike and I can't get it move with my hand.
I stumped? Is a certain amount of play normal?
I tried my son's bike and a buddies and they have zero side-to-side free play.

Are you sure it's the wheel and not slop in the steering head or even forks?

If it's definitely the wheel moving relative to the forks, then try removing the brake caliper with the next instal to ensure it isn't pushing the wheel away from the fork leg.

If you were to grab your wheel at the top and wiggle it back and forth it would move a noticeable amount.
I don't think it's in the head tube but I'll double check.

I went out and looked again. It sure seems like it's moving between the forks. I tried to get a video but it just looks like the whole bike is wiggling.
You can hear a definite klunk as it moves back and forth.

I watched the brake rotor in between the pads and I couldn't see it moving. I tried moving the fork back and forth and didn't get any movement.
I'm confused.

Just try loosening the brake bolts, re tighten the axle and see if I'm correct.
Wouldn't I being seeing rotor rubbing? The wheel spins easily and freely.
But I'll try your suggestion, easy enough to give that a shot.

Maybe I'm fooling myself and it's the headset. I'll see if that needs tightening first.

1. Tried the brake tip--nope.
2. Tightened the headset up a tad-nope.

Nothing worked.....BUT problem solved!
Anybody want to take another crack before I tell ya what it was?

Aside from loose hub bearings that I mentioned on your other post, the only thing I'd think of looking at would be spoke tension, though it would have to be really bad to be this noticeable...

So, lay it on me. What was it?

Broken Qloc! That little expanding cup that expands when you flip the lever...well it wasn't expanding!

The red thing in the picture on the right! Expalins why it did it on both wheels!

And there you have it...I dismissed this idea early on having never seen any type of thru-axle failure. Wrong again!

It's something in the locking mechanism. It feels all gritty when you try to activate to expand. I haven't torn it apart to see what's up with it yet.
