Need help with brakes.

Thinking of going with the MT5 pros.

The weak levers were my main concern with the MT5’s but these have a different lever. Not as good as the Hope lever but better than the 2 finger MT5.

£210 for the MT5 Pro with storm rotors v £485 for the Hopes.

Review of the Hope V4 here:

BTW, the Shimano M7100's are 2 piston brakes, while the Hopes are 4 piston. Shimano does make a number of 4 piston brakes as well, including the M7120s. Review of those here:

Still cheaper than the Hope's, but not half the price. You might also consider the price of replacement pads - the 7120's are finned for heat reduction, so cost more than normal non-finned pads.
I gave up on the finned pads I did not ee a difference. they can use regular shinamo 4 piston pads. I like the fins it gives you something to hold on to though.

Seen a lot of people using MT5’s with the SLX levers.
Interesting combination but give both use mineral oil shouldn't be issue. Easier just to stay with SLX.

MT5 levers don't have left or a right so brakes can be swapped easily eg front on left or right. Great for rentals.

The M7120 4pot typically come with finned pads but you can run considerably cheaper non fins if not doing repeated heavier braking. For hard riding there is also ICE tech rotors but overkill for type of riding this bike is expected to do.
Some bikes are setup with 4pot in front and 2pot at rear. Down side is need to source 2 different types of pads, easier to keep them same. That is why I standardize on 2pot resins G03A, work on my Deores, SLXs and XT.

XT have brake and shifter clamp combined so only option if using XT shifters. SLX is separate so can use with any shifters, plus they have gear indicator which is useful for commuting. I try to stop at lights with it around lower 3rd.

Se did the finned pads and 203 ice tech rotors on our tandem. dot really see a difference we use ceramic pads now and right now thicker Magura or sram rotors. the front ice-tech rotor would always warm in use and tick tick for a little while till it straighten out worse in winter.

SLX M7120 are £335 plus rotors.

Magura MT5 pro with rotors are £210.
