Need help deciding on 2nd bike

I’m looking for a 2nd bike for another location. I had bought a Blix Vlka+ because I wanted a folding bike, but I find it’s too heavy to transport frequently. My next bike doesn’t need to fold so I’m thinking of getting a bike with larger than 20” wheels for more stability, but I am only 5’ tall so I still need to the frame to be small enough to fit me. I’d like something cute looking, maybe in fun colors.. must have a throttle, low step through, and prefer suspension, mid or rear motor, disk brakes..preferably hydraulic. I’m going crazy looking at the reviews and each one seems to have something I don’t like (no throttle, too big or heavy, etc) . Any suggestions?

I put this link in your other thread for your consideration:

Have you ever heard of Electric Bike Company?

Looks really good..my concern is the wide cruiser handlebars. I find them awkward
and difficult to turn wth.

The Espin Reign looks great but the motor is only 250 watts?

Looking at Electric Bike Company, model R (not sure I would like the wide handlebars), and Ride1up 700 series (concerned about some negative comments here about noise from brakes or motor). Espin Reign looks very interesting but tires and under 2” and motor is only 250 watts. Thoughts? I guess there is no perfect bike! If I could switch out the handlebars on the EBC I would go for the model R.

I was actually thinking of the Flow - that's 500 😉. Both models have reviews here at EBR.
I looked at that but then stumbled across the Reign which seems quite interesting with mid drive motor and torque. One concern is the very large wheels (27.5”) and would like tire width to be wider (flow is 1.95”). Plus I don’t like the color choices of Flow.

There are always going to be trade-offs... No bike is perfect 😉.

If you're looking at the Reign, have you looked at the Giant La Free? I have the E+2 model, and it's a great bike!

Says min size is 5’3”. I’m 5’0”. Plus it has no suspension. My current bike has no suspension and it’s a hard ride over bumps. This bike will be mostly for nyc where the roads can be a bit rough. Looking for suspension this time.

Base on your size and requirements, you may want to take a look at the EBR list of Best Kids Electric Bike Reviews:

Most electric bikes are made for teens or adults, but a few companies have made child-specific products so everyone can ride along with electric assist! These ebikes tend to use smaller wheels, but often rely on the same powerful motors and high-capacity batteries. In many cases, they are set to operate at slightly lower speeds or have some speed adjustment features. I’ve included some adult bikes in this category that come in extra small sizes (or offer adjustable size features) so there are more options for young people.

Me too.. I have analysis paralysis 😜
Also remember that you can always get a suspension seat post that will address most comfort issues, and, within reason, you can change the tires. Come to think about it, you can have the bike painted any color you want too 😉!

The problem with suspension seat posts is that they could make the seat too tall for me. Also would like fork suspension. I think I’m leaning toward the ride1up 700 series. Seems to have most of what I want but it ships in a bunch of pieces. I have to find a bike shop that will assemble it for me. I like the looks of the Electric Bike Co Model R better, and they ship it fully assembled, but I can’t get past those wide cruiser handlebars. Wish I could try one out.
Children's bike??

I know 5 feet is short, but not THAT short 🤔
yeah I don’t know about that. I don’t want reduced speed! I have a bike now with 20” wheels but I have read that larger wheels feel more comfortable and stable.

I was thinking about Aventon, too. Though a lot of folks don't like the initial "kick" of PAS one or throttle, it seems...

Thanks for this info. I am now leaning toward the EBC model R.. debating about whether or not to get the gears.

If you don't, add 7 speed later on, assuming that frame is identical (
OUCH! I was fooled once and thought the same. (different bike) the single-speed had no derailleur attachment. It collects dust in the corner of my shop. POS fatty!

Okay so I just looked at the photos and they're hard to tell, I think the best bet is to ask Electric Bike Company to make sure that 7 speed can be added later on. You may not need the derailleur hanger, it might attach directly onto the frame, but I am not sure.

Either way, if they do have the identical frame, adding 7 speed isn't hard.
All a matter of skill or interest level. Most here aren't prepared for the adventure. If you've ever scratch built an eBike you'd know there are all sorts of pitfalls.

Any bicycle shop can install this no problem and it will be a quick and easy job.

The points are,

1) The 7 speed option may not need to be decided at this point.
2) If needed, it can be added on for a very reasonable cost. (won't be very costly)
I guess, since you have experience with adding a derailleur, I default to you and your experience.

Looks like a very nice bike! You said you didn't want the wide handlebars - is there another option with this bike?

If I weren't pretty much absolutely sure I'd only be riding on flat terrain, I'd get the gears 😉.
