Hi, newbies here just bought an electric fatbike/mtb it a Coswheel T26. I'm currently trying to install Magura mt7 brake (220 disc).

Is there any guide on how to place cutoff sensor for this brake? what should i get first.

Thank you in advanced

You bought Magura brakes that do not have the cutout integrated into the brake levers? Or are you trying to use an after-market Hydraulic brake sensor?

Yes, i cant find the ebike version i think it magura mt5. is it possible to custom a brake sensor on this brake.

I've got I think five sets of MT5e's and one set of MT5's. Also a set of MT4's which use the same levers. I never found an acceptable solution for those levers.

No way in hell would I use the 220 discs. 203's front and rear would be plenty and you don't need to stack up brake adapters. The MDR-C rotors are extra-stiff, but the really good ones are the tektro type 17's which are 2.3mm thick vs. the 2.0mm Maguras. A bit difficult to fit with brand new pads but what I do is swap in a slightly used set of pads with a new rotor and by the time the pads are worn out, the rotor is worn a hair and can take new pads without rubbing.

Also the Tektros are like $25 and the Magura 220's are mighty pricey. The MDR-C's are in the $30-$35 range. For a bike like yours 180's front and rear coupled to 4-pot MT5's and the type 8.P pads would be plenty no matter what kind of riding you are doing.

If you have maguras without the cutoff ebrake lever, you can just buy the lever for them
You can find them on their webstore. www.magurausa-shop.com
  • Part 2700838 MT7E lever blade
  • Part 2700837 MT5E lever blade
  • Part 2700836 MT4E lever blade
Below is a Video on how to change the brake lever on an existing brake
MAGURA MT: Changing Brake Lever Blades - YouTube

Beware they exist in either Normally Open (close the contact on brake action), good for lights or regen
Or Normally Closed (open contact on brake action), good for engine cutoff

Make sure to know what type you need for your controller

this is great thank you thank you

The problem with buying the levers alone is their cost. When you look at MT5's vs. MT5e's vs. MT5's plus 5e levers, you are looking at minimally $50 per axle.
But that $50 was pre-COVID. Right now this is likely your best deal for shipping to a non-EU location

Rose Bikes in Germany is also a good source, as is Holland Bike Shop. But I think the site above most likely has the widest global ship-to range.

Compare that to what they charge for an entire MT5e brakeset. Shipping is the same for a lever or for a whole set (which is in stock).

Yup, you can find them just can't buy them. A shop I'm familiar with was told out-of-stock items won't be available until 2nd quarter or later this year.
You are right about that...
These days, it is hard to find some of these parts. I was lucky to get a window of availability for my MT7 recently.
But they are also sometimes available in other shops, so a regular Google search with the right part number can help nail one down :)

Everything is in stock at the links I posted above. Magura being a German company, you do better going to German shops.

Shipping to the USA though is $52+ on top of the retail... to China its only $28.

It is a fluid situation. Years ago Rose was the best bar none for retail price and shipping. Bike-Discount was high on shipping. Now Rose has almost nothing ... although 8P pads are cheap at only €16.95 with only €16 shipping no matter how many you buy... I used to stock up on a half-dozen sets and still save money on pads bought domestically. 6 sets of pads are $129 delivered from Rose. On Fleabay at $34.99 a pop (with 'free' shipping) thats $209. And its not uncommon to get hosed for $39.99 per pad set.

By the way I have bought two batches of these pads - I went there during a time when 8.P's were completely unavailable - and they have worked great both times. When I say 'batch' I mean I bought a couple of bikes' worth of pads - 2 packs of 8 pads each. these red ones work great. Years ago I bought their 'green' formula and it was awful... the pads swelled up when they got hot (which on a cargo bike in the summer is easy to do) and rubbed the rotors. But these red ones are winners.

Mt7e help

I broke the cutoff wire ( between the lever and the Higo plug) in a crash. Everything else in the braking unit survived. Can the entire Higo connection wire be replaced or is a new lever assembly required.. Thanks, JJ

Ps wire is too short to simply splice back together.

You are in luck I think
Below is a video on how to disassemble the wire to change the switch.
If you are good with a solder iron, you should be able to replace the whole wire :)

Have a source on those switches?

I just bought the MT5 e-stop levers (2700837) linked here and installed them on my brakes and hooked up to my M620 harness, only to have one of the switches die after two rides. I reached out to Starbike hoping they'll send a new one as a warranty replacement but haven't heard back yet.

I've never had a lever switch go bad (now 6 sets in use since I posted in March). Are you sure its the lever switch and not the wiring harness?

If only one works, try swapping to the other plug if you haven't done so already. That will confirm its the switch.
So long as you bought from an actual Magura dealer you should have no issue with warranty replacement if the selling vendor does their part. I had a caliper leak on me a few years ago and Magura replaced the caliper, the pads and the rotor. Even though I told them pads and rotor were already worn out. Magura insisted on making it all good. Vendor at the time was Planet Cyclery.

I've already done that, I swapped the plugs left to right and the issue persisted on the faulty one, so know it's the switch itself and the harness is fine.

I reached out to Starbike and unfortunately they want me to SHIP IT BACK to Germany which is ridiculous probably not worth the cost, not to mention the fact that I will have to uninstall it from my brake lever which is an additional pain. I'm wondering if I can contact Magura directly?

I'm a bit annoyed with magura tbh, the mt5e has almost everything i want in a brake except.... 1 finger levers, i'm sick to death of having to put levers a third of the way up my bars, it means i can't use matchmakers for my dropper and gear shift, i'm forced to consider other options including retro fitting a brake sensor to other brakes, maybe Hope v4 e4 if they have a 1 finger option.

I use the cut off kinda like a clutch, it keeps the flow going through downshifting whilst entering corners etc so i find it indispensible.
