I ran across this video and it brought back a memory of my first ride on a power assisted bicycle back in the late 1960's.
My brother-in-law rode a Solex bike while he was touring in Europe. He bought one while in France and had it shipped back to the US. He once let me ride it around the neighborhood back in 1969 or 1970 and I remember it was a blast. It had a top speed of about 25 mph. It wasn't really power "assisted", you either pedaled it or engaged the motor and rode it like a moped.
He still has his Solex sitting in his garage, in like-new condition. I doubt if he ever put more than 200 miles on it. It has probably been over 30 years since he last started it up. I wonder if it would still be possible to license it (he now lives in MT).
