mid mount reverse?

Just wondering if a mid mount motor can have a reverse gear. Looks like the trikes I've seen with reverse are hub mount. Thinking for a tadpole trike. Thanks in advance

Quick answer: No.

Most etrikes with forward-mount motors use derailleur gears which come with freewheels that would nullify reversing through the chain. I suspect that all hub gears (for example, Rohloff) would also require freewheels.

The motor of choice for reverse is a direct drive hub motor. Geared hubs and mid-drives have to deal with freewheel issues as David described.
