It's worrying at times. There have been several fantastic members of these Forums (I won't mention their handles) to not appear here anymore.
  • Some lost their interest in the EBR Forums
  • Some had accidents, eliminating them for a longer while
  • Some have just disappeared. Are they alive? (Hard question, especially in the pandemic times. Some might have just passed away for natural reasons).
It is so sad to see people go. I have got some our renowned members as Strava contacts: if they are OK, they're just riding, and it can be seen on Strava. It would be good to have several of you more as Strava or FB contacts. However, some of you despise Strava, and some other do hate Facebook...

Very true Stefan.

I belong to many forums but I'm more active on some than others. Although I'm always interested in their respective subject matter, often I have nothing to contribute.

I've reached out to fellow posters via PM on occasion when I don't see them post for awhile. Most of the time, thankfully, it's for the above reason. Sadly however, a few have passed away.

A few forums I frequent have a pinned thread for posting information on individual members. It offers a personal touch to an otherwise anonymous forum. When I was in the hospital a few years ago, several posters reached out to offer their support. I thought this a very kind gesture and reciprocate whenever I can.

It would be nice to have such a thread here at EBR but it is such a large diverse forum, it would be difficult to manage.

Do we have any chance to learn that a member has passed away?
Not always, but sometimes a friend or relative will notify a forum administrator who posts the information.

I have a few personal friends who belong to these forums. Sometimes, information is passed along that way.

When people get sick or hurt they usually don’t worry about posting. Most people just lose interest. I belong to 4 other forums not e bike related and it happens on all of them.

Three examples, no names mentioned:
  • An active Forum member had a dramatic accident on his ride this summer. Despite of his serious state, he managed post his situation on Strava. We stay in touch. He might re-join the Forum after he starts riding e-bike again (now, he recovers on a lightweight traditional bike).
  • A technically excellent and helpful Forum member just lost his interest in the Forum. He can be found on Strava.
  • An active and very happy Forum member just stopped posting. He's not replying to the PM. I can expect the worst.
