I need a replacement battery charger for my Martes 48volt electric bike. I bought a charger off ebay but it does not shut off automatically at 54.2 volts. Can anybody point me in the right direction to get the exact replacement charger for the above bike.

The only web page bing finds for the martes has a very short description. https://www.bikeandgo.co.uk/electric-bikes/martes-electric-folding-bike-far-tire-20-48v-500w/ It says the battery is 48 v 500 w. This is obvious ******** as bike batteries are sold in watthour sizes, not watts. If the battery produced 500 w for only 5 minutes the wh would be 41. The range would be about 5 miles. With this kind of **** being published I would take it that 54.2 max volts is also incorrect. 48v LiIon batteries reach 100% charge at 54.6 v. If your battery is not LiIon further research is required.
Most ebay chargers have a picture of the label, which shows the shutoff voltage. I personally only charge my 48 v battery to full voltage twice a year. The rest of the time I shut the charger off with a humble $10 AC timer. Then I measure with a voltmeter, aiming for 52.8 to 53 v or 90% charge. My battery is 5 years old, has about 400 charges.
My battery was sold with a 45 a 48 v controller, which means that it should be able to produce 2160 w. A 25 A controller should be able to produce 1200 W. The 500 w rating, if true, puts that battery in the flashlight category, not ebikes.

Cheers Indianajo. That's great information just what I was looking for. I think I'll be OK now I've got the right info.
