Manufacturers pull out from dealers often?

Put a Magnum Metro on layaway at Best Electric Bike in Denver, 10 blks from home (7 years in business). I won't finish paying for it until Apr/May but laid it away now because of a conversation with owner Terry. He said he started carrying Magnums thinking he had an exclusive deal with them, sold over $250,000 worth - and they're pulling his dealership, opening another local store! The Metro was the last one he had in stock.

I know I only heard one side of the story but I wonder how common this is, churn in brands carried. Proximity to a LeBS that sells/services your brand is a consideration for those of us who aren't Goodwrenches and are new to e-bikes, and this action makes that less of a concern I think, boosting online options. Is this a reflection of still-young industry?

BTW - Best Electric will still do any work I may need/want on my Metro. And Terry and Zane (chief mech) had good words to say about Court and EBR, guess he's been here a few times.
