I am posting this to the Bafang forum because of its specific use with Bafang mid drive motor systems. Seems with a modified cable setup Luna was able to create a plug and play high powered front headlight straight to the battery and also incorporate a Bafang 500c style horizontal display in one unit.

I do not have intimate knowledge of the harness plugs that come off the BBS02/HD/Ultra but I have understood the light control through the stock controller to be wholly inadequate at a mere 500ma. So I find it interesting that without any form of inverter or relays (unless it's all built into the light housing) they were able to pull this off. I am strongly considering purchasing one because I have an immediate need for something more than the joke of a front light that came with my bike.

Does anyone have more information or educated theories on the wiring and inner workings that makes this a plug and play setup?

This runs off bike's main battery without having to do any custom wiring, adding of relays or tapping in to battery cables or wiring in dc-dc inverters. This is the first product I have seen do this for a Bafang motor system.

Hmmm. How is it implemented?
CA3 no gadgets needed to power. Battery tap and a good Stvzo.
I’m genuinely curious. But own lights that were all the best and became unsustainable failures.

IMI if really broad night lighting is needed, go. If I’m in night traffic I want to be safe and sane and not blind that asshat in a cage.

Exactly what I thought as well.

Not interested in the CA3. Was actually about to purchase the 500c display because my DPC18 is rather large and annoying especially at night and also wanted a simple plug and play headlight upgrade but kept coming up short. This basically kills 2 birds with one stone and my night riding is mostly trails away from cars anyhow. Sometimes I ride through low lit neighborhood streets with minimal traffic. I've had more close calls with deer and possums than cars.

Yes, I get having an off road light. I used to run both but bagged any riding off pavement. Making a proper headlight critical IMO.

My concern is mounting it in a way that the light is focused down where I want it and still having the display tilted for my best view without sun glare.

Just got it last night. Unboxed and thought the same thing. Nothing has been installed and mounted yet, but in order to angle it down to where I feel the light should be pointed, it looks as though the screen will be pointed straight up, meaning viewing would be at an angle. An adjustable screen perch would have been ideal.

Also of note. There is no manual or diagram supplied for hooking up the new harness. It also appears at first glance that the supplied button pad (hardwired to the headlight) might only perform lighting functions which means I need to retain my original button pad for display functions. That means 2 button pads and that is not exactly what I was looking for. I will know more and update this thread once it is installed. Build quality of the headlight assembly is very very nice.

From what I gather it's a full functioning display and button set... but that can also be a convienient omission in the description.
Says you can use the stock Bafang harness for low brightness functionality... So I'd give it a quick test before mounting

Exactly what I will be doing. Especially since my harness is routed through the bike frame, so not the "5 minute" swap they claim on their website. I don't blame them too much for that wording though. If I had converted a regular bike with a BBSHD kit that would be the case.

If you lose one, you lose both or you keep one and the other one stays broken. Insofar as the Lumenator is concerned, you are connecting a display to a heat pump. I decided this is something I would rather let some other pioneer take arrows in the back on (sorry it was you @voidedwarranty ). Also, at $190 that means I am paying $90 for a reduced-info display and $100 for the headlight. The convenience of reduced wiring is not worth that to me.

I gave up a long time ago on wired-in bike lights specifically cuz of the reduced choices you have once you say to yourself you want it all wired in. For me, USB charging once per week is fine, and part of my routine.

So what you're saying is I should do an initial review, and then revisit this summer when the heat kills the display. Deal! I'll be very pleased if this works out, and shrug it off if it doesn't.

I may have time tonight to install it if I skip making a video out of the whole process and comparison.

Some vendors reinvent everything they can, claim provenance as theirs, and claim to have engineered everything but the wheel. YAWN.

I've more than a few failed "best" "fastest" products that are dead after limited use.

Look on the bright side Tom. If this fails, you won't have to fix it . And I'll probably end up buying a 500c display if you got one in stock.

well I kind of distrust the whole combined device concept. If you lose a bulb or the light just craps out you are just as screwed, but in a different way. I'm not bagging on the Lumenator in particular, I just distrust the genre. I look at the Van Moof bikes and their lights built into the frame and mutter the same sorts of things to myself.
