Looking to get rolling in NY

Welcome! Have you test ridden anything yet?
Ride1up has a couple bikes that can handle light trails and fit your price range. The 700 has gotten pretty good reviews and the Lmt'd has looks promising but isn't out yet. A few folks have gotten the Gepida Fastida recently and it seems like a great value for what you get. Not really a trail bike, but should do OK on bike paths if that's more your thing. You can find the Gepida listed at Crazy Lenny's.

Thanks Blackhand! Haven’t test driven anything. Haven’t been out of the house much lately. Ride1Ups were on my list and there seem to be independent reviews out there which is very important since I may not be able to test drive. Also looked in Rad Power Bikes and the Aventon Pace 500. The Electric Bike Company bikes seem to offer a lot but I can’t find much customer feedback. Even the forum on this site seems to have less content than other brands. Makes me wonder. Gepida Fastida looks great but is about $4K I think.

Those brands all have pretty good reputations. You're right I haven't seen many posts from EBC owners. That's double edged, because it also could indicate not a lot of problems. I suspect the beach cruiser crowd are more likely to be out chillin' on their rides and spend less time talking about it on forums than the emtb and commuter types who often want the most out of their bikes.
The Gepida is listed for $2199 at Crazy Lenny's right now. They'll probably take a couple hundred off if you call or fill out the contact form.

I have yet to hear anything negative about Electric Bike Company bikes, although I have no personal experience with them and haven't researched them thoroughly.
I went as far as calling Crazy Lenny's about purchasing a Gepida Fastida. It is a bike which 'speaks' to me, although it was not a 'need' purchase. A couple weeks back the Fastida's were on CL's 'overstock' page priced at $1,980. When I called they said that they wouldn't take any more off the price, but would ship for $50 instead of the normal $200. But I still couldn't pull the trigger.
A little while back I did purchase a Gepida Thoris tandem as an anniversary present for myself and my wife. Gepida is not well known in the U.S., but is highly respected in Europe. The build quality, engineering and spec level on the Thoris is all very good, and I assume it will be as good on the Fastida. Not many reviews about it on the webs either, but I'm certain it is a very capable bike. Much more refined and efficient product as compared to R1U, Rad or Aventon level bikes. And I do love speed pedelecs.

Thank you. Test drives a little difficult at the moment and hoping to get biking soon. Also considering Haibike, Pedego, Gepida and Ibis but entry level falling short of what Chinese bikes have to offer and trying to figure out which way to go. Frankly overloaded with information. Two things I know for sure - 1.) I am not very handy so has to be relatively maintenance free and 2.) it may be a “starter” bike but hope to get at least 5 years out of it.
