List of bikes with Powertube 500 vertical for gravel

Just talked to the Trek customer service and found out it is vertical! And if your Allant battery bay is the same size as the Domane then it can take the 625w. I am so grateful I looked at this thread! Was going to buy the Extender with the 500w but the 625w was cheaper!
Opps yeah it is a vertical.
I strongly recommend that you have your local Trek shop confirm this as it is a bit of $$$. You will need:

(1) Bosch PowerTube 625 VERTICAL [QBP, via your local shop]

(1) Trek RIB battery design cover (size and color specific to your eBike model). [Trek]

(1)* set of RIB endcaps. I'm not sure if these are sold individually, or as a set. [Trek]

Your existing Bosch charger should work fine with the larger capacity battery. Keep in mind it will take longer to charge.
Sorry for the confusion.

I believe it’s horizontal for my Allant+7. Why in the hell they make both horizontal and vertical, I’ll never understand!
It's a bit confusing on the RIB System... they use the vertical PT battery, but rotate it 90deg so that it sits like a horizontal PT inside the frame. I share some of your sentiment regarding the need for the 2 different variants... it definitely complicates things. The reason behind it is to give OEM's more flexibility in design- whether they are looking for slimmer top or side view of downtube, or just plain trying to get a battery to fit into a smaller frame. I realize this helps the consumer very little when working with/understanding their own eBike, but hopefully the logic behind it eases the frustration a bit.

Happy Monday!

Un....no it doesn’t. I’ve had a 625 on order for months (why is this taking so friggen long?) and I just hope my Trek dealer ordered the right one as I will be mighty POed if it’s wrong. It really seems ridiculous to have a sealed battery in 2 configurations. I’m a simple caveman but I think of these similarly to very large AA batteries so I just don’t get the point.

No. It is many many cells very smartly connected and ordered, with a complex battery management system (a kind of a computer) designed in the way you could sleep well and not afraid of the fire.

Yes Stefan, I know it’s many cells..etc, etc.🤓
Now tell me why there are a vertical and a horizontal.🤔

Perhaps it is the matter how the battery is mounted to the frame? 🤔
Yes!

This is what I was trying to express earlier, but I failed. :(

It is 100% for the purpose of allowing design flexibility for OEMs.

Bosch uses the same lithium battery cells and the same battery management system (BMS) but offers (2) different "packaging" options to alleviate some of the design challenges our OEM partners might face, as well as allow for some design flexibility/creativity. Designing a down tube (or top tube in some cases!) to accommodate something as large and heavy as an eBike battery presents many design/manufacturing challenges, especially when that large/bulky item needs to be easily removable.

Electrical performance is the same, mounting hardware is the same, but mounting orientation changes between horizontal/vertical.

My apologies for the delay on the batteries. Unfortunately, pretty much everything is backed-up in the bicycle industry right now due to the pandemic. I believe this is the case for many other industries as well. I'm not sure on the specifics of which exact part(s) of the supply chain is delaying Bosch's batteries, but it's affecting many other things as well. I keeping hearing about delays with other bicycle components... lead-times ranging from 6 months to nearly 2 years on brakes, forks, etc., etc. An electronics manufacturing company I am close with has completely discontinued a few products because one of the critical components currently has a 3 year lead-time. Global supply chains appear to have been greatly affected by temporary shut-downs, reduced personnel availability, increased demand, reallocation of resources, etc.

If your Trek dealer has not already done this, they can set an "item-watch" for the Powertube 625 VERTICAL on QBP. This will alert them as soon as it is in-stock, and they can place the order.

No need to apologize. I realize it’s a weird time but, assuming (possibly incorrectly) these batteries are not hand built, I expected to have this some time ago. I’ve also assumed that is was something that there was a good stock of. The good news is that I’m not in any major need now, I just want to be sure to have one by spring. My guy says he has the cover and end caps so this is what I’m waiting on and I‘m pretty sure he’s keeping his eye on this “item-watch” on QBP.

All the supply chain issues you mentioned are playing a huge part on the delays but also there is a shortage of shipping containers as well. It often doesn’t get mentioned but it’s a huge part of the issue and is extending the delays even more and making a bad situation worse as manufacturers like shimano, Bosch ,Giant, etc have to wait their turn. Global trade of-course is more than just bicycle parts.

Edit: @ Dallant I left my original trek allant 8s 625 battery in New York when I moved over here to Greece. Not sure how far you are from there but if you’re interested in taking a road trip to NY my brother who still lives in NY is available to hand it off to you. PM me if you can’t wait anymore for the one you have on order from the lbs.

I would like to buy it if Dallant is not interested!
