Figured out my connectivity issue. Had two copies of the BBS tool on my laptop. One is already installed and knows which com port to use. The other one gets installed every time it is started and need a specific power on procedure of the adapter and bike to sync up.

Bike runs fine. Lowered the throttle start current to 5% for less shock. I get chain pops if the throttle comes on hard. Crank is new of course,as is the 14-34 freewheel. Old chain and derailleur. I have those parts new, but would like to keep them as spares, so I'll tey shortening the old chain first.
