No ebike is perfect, this is a thread dedicated to sharing known issues or problems with electric bikes from Hebb as well as any help and solutions you know of. Sometimes that means a DIY fix and other times it can mean a recall, software update or part replacement by a dealer.

Please be respectful and constructive with feedback, this is not a space for hate speech. In many cases, representatives from the company will see feedback and use it to improve their product. In the end, the goal is to enjoy riding and help each other go further and be safer.

I have the following problem with my Hebb Electroglide 500. Sometimes (not always), when I turn the throttle, the motor initially starts to turn, but then stops dead. Sometimes (but not always) if I reset the battery, it will work fine again. When the problem occurs, I get a LED blink pattern tha doesn't matvch anything in the technical manaul (I can't recall exactly, but something like 3+5 flashes).
I had a repair shop look at it and they replaced the throttle. It worked afterward, but that was 0ne of those 'sometimes' I was talking about.
The battery seems to be fine because when it works, it has lots of power and run for along time.
I was going to take it to the shop today, but when I charged the battery and ran it, and it worked fine.
Any ideas on what could be wrong?

I have a Hebb bike I got in about 2012. I think it is an ElectroGlide 500 but I’m not certain of that. What I am interested in is getting a second battery for the bike. Apparently Hebb Bikes is out of business but I assume another bike manufactured used that kind of battery. Anyone know where I can get another battery for a Hebb bike?

@Hebb Biker, is your current battery the original? If so, consider getting it rebuilt by EbikeMarketPlace (a part of RPE) or do a search on our site; Court and a couple of other people have recommendations for independent electronics specialists who rebuild lithium batteries.
If you want to get a whole new battery, I've worked with UnitPackPower.com and had good results; prices are decent and they will customize it to fit exactly the way you need it to with the kind of connectors you want.

SAFETY ALERT: The front fork on my Hebb ElectroGlide 500 bike recently snapped while I was getting on it. I went down fast and hard, landed on my chin, and spent 12 days in the hospital with a subdural hematoma. I left the hospital in a wheelchair. Because of my near-fatal personal experience I would NOT ride this bike, and if you have one please stop riding it. If I had been moving fast I would likely have died.

Hi, I was wondering where you were able to get a new battery. I have a Hebb electroglide 500 and seems as if my battery has been rewired by the previous owner. There is no external fuse anymore and battery seems to be shorting out. Ran great and now when I turn the key, the red light goes on briefly and then cuts off. Rather than hunt down the problem, I wanted to get the battery rebuilt or a new one. General advice appreciated.

I got my Hebb Bike battery from Bill Hebb. I wasn’t able to reach him for a while so I thought he wasn’t around any longer. But he apparently still is and although he does not sell the bikes anymore, he said he still can supply parts and batteries.

Thanks. I am trying to figure out if I should upgrade the bike with a new kit so I have a warranty. The new kits are less than a new Hebb/Ezee battery. Any Hebb owners think about adding a new, lighter battery and motor? I am not really sure if the basic quality of the bike frame and component warrants this but I like the rear hub shifter and overall feel of the bike. Thoughts?

No. I am staying with what I have. I hope my bike and battery to last a long time and when it has to be replaced, I will likely look into another bike, and a bike brand that has been around for awhile.

Sounds good. I am also going to try to get my connection to the power up and running. I would only replace the motor and battery with a newer unit if I can't get my bike running. Bill Hebb is helping me problem solve. My battery seems to be fine but when I turn the key, the small red light at the key switch turns on and then quickly goes off. No power at all.

I had the same problem, i bought my bike used too and had the exact same issue. U just need to change the fuse, it's a super easy fix. Just open up your battery and replace the fuse. In my case my fuse holder was melted which is why it would work sometimes and other times it wouldnt. I put in a new fuse holder and fuse. It worked flawlessly after that. I also contacted Mr. Hebb and he recommended that I replace my controller. So I ordered a controller from him but that didn't fix the issue.
