Known Issues & Problems with BMC Products + Help, Solutions, & Fixes

No ebike is perfect, this is a thread dedicated to sharing known issues or problems with electric bikes from BMC as well as any help and solutions you know of. Sometimes that means a DIY fix and other times it can mean a recall, software update or part replacement by a dealer.

Please be respectful and constructive with feedback, this is not a space for hate speech. In many cases, representatives from the company will see feedback and use it to improve their product. In the end, the goal is to enjoy riding and help each other go further and be safer.

Hello,
I would like to get further technical information meaning specific products not just suggestions to buy something online for:
BMC Alpenchallenge AMP City One

1) modifying my handlebars to be raised first and foremost and second if they could come forward a bit. I would like to be able to buy the parts online and install myself
I called BMC headquarters and info was too general - "a bike shop should be able to help you out". The headlamp is integrated and was told that it was just a generic go pro type attachment and that shouldn't be an issue when modifying. The bike shop in which I purchased already switched out the factory handlebars with ones that have a small rise but not much. It was enough for me when I test drove the bike to make the difference that I wanted to purchase it knowing I had to tweak it just a bit more. Only problem is I need specifics.

2) adding a rack to the rear wheel. was told only rack was a Tubus Evo Fly which is very small and narrow and the next question then is specifically what kind of bag would fit on that. I have a Topeak that I love.

below is a photo of my Trek 7300 handlebars alongside the BMC. I am not looking for it to be exactly like my Trek but need more height for sure - too bent over
Trek HB are approx. 26" long and BMC 27" -

thank you
with gratitude,
debra

I replied about the handlebars in your other thread. Do look into spacers and flipping the stem upside down. When I bought my touring bike years ago it came with enough spacers to raise the bars quite a bit. I'm a bit surprised that the store from which you bought the bike didn't help you out more with this.

As for the rack, I refer you to the following long thread (link below) about the BMC Alpenchallenge AMP series. It will take a while to go through all the messages, but there is some good discussion in there about racks and bags, I think. I don't remember the details because I don't plan to put a rack on my bike.
