Known Issues & Problems with Bike Friday Products + Help, Solutions & Fixes

No eBike is perfect, this is a thread dedicated to sharing known issues or problems with Bike Friday products as well as any help and solutions you know of. Sometimes that means a DIY fix and other times it can mean a recall, software update, or part replacement by a dealer.

Please be respectful and constructive with feedback, this is not a space for hate speech. In many cases, representatives from the company will see feedback and use it to improve their product. In the end, the goal is to enjoy riding and help each other go further and be safer.

Well, I found this post via a search for Bike Friday. I've had two NWT's in my life and I loved them. I'm starting to research getting an ebike and I just found out Bike Friday is now making them. What a pleasant surprise. I'll be deciding what options I want and placing an order for a new bike through them. Research is over!

Hi Did you go ahead with your BF Ebike order? If so, how is it? I'm leaning that way, but maybe the Diamond Llama so I can ride on trails.

I ordered an Ever-E-Day model and will be picking it up at the end of this week. I chose this model for a few reasons: I wanted a bike that I can haul groceries and other items to cut down on driving around town and I plan to use it for touring and to run errands while I travel around the country in my rv. It’s taken a few months from ordering to getting it built. Reach out to me in a few weeks and I should know a bit more. I’m pretty excited.

@kjacobson like yourself we've had couple of BF NWT for about 15 years. Bulletproof little folders we've taken on extensive trips. One just two weeks ago. Since we'd just recently purchased two eBikes I'd never even given BF a thought until browsing this forum. Bit late for us but I'd be interested in how you're getting along with yours?

Hi Well...I've gone 'round and 'round for way too long, and still don't have an e-bike, mostly because I'm looking for a unicorn. How are you liking your BF? I know BF is a great choice: Made in US, folds quickly enough and small enough, no proprietary parts, servicing available, great battery system, I can lift it, put it in my car, take it on an airplane, etc. But, I need a bike I can ride on rough terrain-not mountain biking, but enough tire width and maybe suspension to be comfortable exploring off road. What to do? Interested in hearing how your purchase worked out for you. Have you used it on RV trips? Any trail riding? Thx!

We have a Bike Friday Minimalist, pedal assist, middrive, with 3 Ligo batteries. It weighs about 38 lb, easy to lift into our Westfalia upright, alongside my Crusoe non electric, without folding or taking either of them apart.
The Minimalist, or Every Day, has a take-apart frame for stiffness and simplicity. It is hand made in the US, you can watch a video of a Bike Friday being built in Oregon. No, it is not as slick as a mass produced off shore bike. But you can work on it, repair it with readily available components and tools, and get factory support. It is also a pleasure to look at the elegant craftsmanship.
However, this is a road and smooth gravel bike with 20" wheels. The pedal assist heavier frame Diamond Llama would be much better for off road use.

I too am an NWT tourer from long ago and faraway. However those days are behind me. In the meantime I have transitioned to a Trek Domane+ road bike. Love it Except: carbon fiber frame and no braze-ons means no racks and no real touring capability. Plus

Love it Except: carbon fiber frame and no braze-ons means no racks and no real touring capability. Plus from month to month top tube is getting higher and higher above ground. Suddenly the Bike Friday Ever-E-Day has appeared. Looks like a suitable touring bike. 37#?? What motor/controller? Specs? Battery configuration is flexible? For those of you who have purchased Ever-E-Days, what has been your experience? Can’t find any EBR reviews.

Just posted, wondering what experience of other riders has been with the Ever-E-Day
