Huh? Yup.
Just got into e-biking recently with the purchase of a Smartmotion Catalyst and love the versatility of ebikes. In a hurry, need to climb hills, just wanna cruise or maybe even ride with no assist for a huge workout or just taking your time, your choice. Been doing all that since getting my bike and, while feeling intoxicated with the freedom afforded by electric assist a terrible thought crossed my mind. It seems like whenever something becomes really popular, rules and regulations inevitably start to encroach followed by enforcement. I'm imagining local law enforcement hiding in the bushes with their radar guns, random stops checking wattage on your bike, excessive licensing, testing, insurance requirements,
sobriety checkpoints - okay maybe I'm getting a little carried away here but you get the point.
I guess I enjoy flying under the radar, I've been windsurfing for years and I will see boaters getting pulled over getting checked for life jackets fire extinguishers, this that and the other, paddleboarders getting check for registration while the windsurfers go pretty much unmolested because we're so on the fringe.
So maybe while a growing popularity will lead to a lot of advantages with ebikes - I'm imagining primarily more R&D, better technology and lower prices- I think I'm secretly wishing it doesn't get too mainstream.
E-biking is really fun, shhhhh, don't tell anyone.![Wink ;) ;)](data:image/gif;base64,R0lGODlhAQABAIAAAAAAAP///yH5BAEAAAAALAAAAAABAAEAAAIBRAA7)
