Just received my Luna X-1 Enduro Yesterday.......questions.

I just received my bike yesterday and was able to charge battery and take it for a test run. It is an awesome bike! This is my first electric bike and high end Enduro. I do own a Onewheel and a Boosted board and build RC electric cars and planes so I have some knowledge of electrics, batteries and electric motors. However, despite racing BMX bikes in my youth I’m going to be learning on the go about electric bikes motors, hydraulic brakes, derailleur, shocks and all their adjustments and fine tuning so please bare with me here.
Everything looked great out of the box. No dings or scratches. Easy to put together. But I have a few issues I’m hoping you guys can help with. I did contact Luna support this morning but thought I'd post here as well.

1. The LCD display does not register MPH or Trip distance. Everything else is working on the readout (assist level, battery level etc). Could something be unplugged? Is the display faulty?
2. The rear rim seems to not be true. It looks like it spins lump sided just a bit. How do I fix this? Is it hard or easier to bring to shop?
3. I’ve tried to be very gentle on the motor and drivetrain interaction. I start of in a low gear with the assist and progress through the gears like a motorcycle as I pick up speed. It seems that in the highest 2 gears there is a pop or skipping of a gear in the motor, or it could be the chain skipping as it’s hard to see and ride at same time. When peddling I feel it skip. I can’t tell if this is occurring internally in the motor or if its the derailleur a little out of wack. Any thoughts would be appreciated.
4. Both brakes are rubbing slightly but I assume that is something I will be able to adjust myself with the help of Youtube.
Like I said, I loved my first ride and can’t wait to get it out on the trails here in San Diego. I’d appreciate as quick a response as possible as I plan on spending the day working on the bike to get it dialed for a ride this afternoon and could use your guidance and expert knowledge.

Congrats on your new bike. I own a Haibike Full FatSix so won't be good for specific help, but maybe in the general. Derailleur skipping could be just a simple adjustment of the barrel located up by your trigger shifter. Get your bike underway and in those gears that are skipping, turn the barrel in either direction and listen for the clicking to increase or decrease. Or, it may be a case of the derailleur not properly adjusted. In that case, look for the Park Tools site on Youtube where you will find some excellent videos on how to adjust the derailleur, shifter barrel, even a noisy rotor like yours.

A local bike shop can easily true up your rims as well as address your brake rotor issue. The display though, will require you looking through that link for any info, and as well, any other Bafang info on the net for your particular installation. I'm sure the answer is out there as to your issue with putting your display into miles.

The rotor is most likely bent a wee bit, requiring some truing by "hand" as you turn the wheel/tire through the caliper and observing.

Maybe the quality control is not as tight for the Luna as it was for my Haibike; out of the box, it had no issues whatsoever.

(Haibike & Yamaha include a pretty comprehensive owners manual. Did you get one for your Luna?)

Thanks so much! Fiddled with the derailleur and adjusted it. Now no popping/skipping. Was able to adjust brakes by following some YouTube videos. Nothing bent as far as I could see. Rubbing was extremely light out of the box so just a matter of loosening and retightening some screws. As far as the LCD display, it’s not a matter of changing to MPH it’s that it’s not registering speed, miles traveled or trip miles. It is showing battery level, assist level and other icons. I’m assuming a wire or something is not connected from hub to lcd.
I almost went with the Fatsix. So far I’m loving this bike. Now to test out customer service.

I looked over that forum thread I linked you and see that you posted there, too, which is good. It looks like the person who works for Luna has done and excellent job responding to questions asked of him throughout the entire thread; just as he has responded to your thread question as well! I wish Haibike had someone on hand to give that kind of customer service input.

So, going over the thread, it seems a few folks have had issues with shortened wire runs to the display and/or controller, causing some issues. So a check to see if your wire harness plugs are in nice and snug is a good first place to start.

Really, a nice looking bike there that you have and the potential power output available is impressive.

Yeah, I was just going to say that not displaying MPH but rest of display working is almost certainly related to the rear spoke magnet or the sensor/wire in the left rear chainstay.

Luna got back to me. Said the same thing. Unfortunately, I don't see a magnet on the spokes or anywhere in my garage where I unpacked and assembled it yesterday.
