Just purchased a Kalkhoff b7

Hi - I live where it’s snowy and cold this time of year! But I had a weak moment when I ran across a Kalkhoff Agattu b7 at a great price. Couldn’t test ride because of the weather. It has the Bosch Performance motor and 400 battery. Anyone have any experience with this bike? Hoping to be able to ride 50 miles on one charge. Do I need to ask for the upgraded battery? Looking forward to hearing about this bike. ?

Welcome to the forum. I don't own that bike but I have a few and in my experience you should get the upgraded battery. It depends on lots of things but that is the short answer. It's too cold to ride where I live in Canada but I bought a bike last week as well, I guess I'm not the smartest person......

Welcome to the site.
I'm not getting the search on the base page to come up with kalkhoff agattu. Bosch Motors are generally very reliable.
If that is a 400 watt hour battery, then at 48 v that would be about 8.3 AH. I can't see any way your are going to get 50 miles on that in one charge. I bought a 17.5 AH, and at 55 deg outside, which makes batteries perform badly, I got about 26 miles from 52 v to 44 v. 42 v is about as low as you want to take one. I wasn't able to help the motor much on that trip, I was going 12 and the sprocket on my bike wasn't high enough to keep up with that speed. So yes, if you want to go 50 miles, especially in the cold, buy as much battery as you can afford. OTOH, an expensive battery is a bigger loss if you leave the bike chained to a pole somewhere and somebody takes your battery. Some people carry a spare battery, but you can't take them into stores and such, especially if they sell e-bikes as some major discount stores do.
Have fun with the hobby.

I found the bike online and it looks like a great bike for you. Internally geared hub, Bosch drive, adjustable stem, Schwalbe tires, suspension fork.....you're good to go as soon as the snow is gone. Did you see Court's review of your bike? He really liked it. One constant with eBikes.....you can never have too much battery. Did you go to the Kalkhoff specific section on the forum, I'm sure they can help you there?

Go to "discussion by brand and user reviews" and find Kalkhoff, the brands are in alphabetical order, there's discussion on your bike. Good luck:)

I looked hard at that same model before going with the Juiced Bikes Crosscurrent S. I'm sure you will like it a lot.

I always recommend getting the biggest battery you can afford. When you see how much fun you're having, you will want to ride more. Plus the effects of wind, hills, a couple of bags of groceries...

I have experience with that bike. It is a good upright-style city bike at a good price. If you got a discount from MSRP then it is a good deal! You probably cannot get the 500Wh as an upgrade from a dealer, as the bike ships with the 400Wh battery. But if you could, I would. Probably would cost an extra $200 or so to do it and be well worth it. Depending on your weight and the terrain you ride, you might be able to get 50 miles from the 400Wh battery riding in Eco and pedaling efficiently at a nice cadence of say 70 rpm in the correct gear. Using higher levels of assist will result in a lower range of course. Congratulations on your new bike! Remember to keep the tires inflated to recommended psi, and lubricate the chain every so often....

Thank you for your reply. Even though I went on a beautiful snowy ski today, I can't wait to ride my new bike! I'm an experienced biker so I think I'll do OK choosing the correct gear and hopefully will have a nice cadence. I'll be riding mostly on a relatively flat rail trail, with a total of about 40 miles per trip with a big hill to my house at the very end. You're correct in that the shop won't swap the battery for me so I'll see what happens with the 400. Thanks again.

Thanks Feliz. I did go to the discussion board, per your suggestion. I'll have to keep my fingers crossed to make my round trip, but otherwise it sounds like i bought a nice bike. Thanks again.

Where do you ski in Michigan?

When I down hill skied, Crystal Mountain was very nice. Now I only Cross Country on the many trails in the Traverse City area.
