They are just ripening and in city parkettes you can find them on trees that were planted. Apartment buildings also have them as decorations. They are something like blueberries but grow on small trees. Also called "Service Berries". The seeds contain a tiny amount of cyanide so there's a limit to how much to eat at one go. Cooking them makes it OK. I'm having some now. Fresh collected on my bike ride.

They look like wild blueberries. Ours will be ready near the end of July..i have never really gotten into a motherload of them, mostly satisfied to have enough for a batch or two of blueberrie pancakes. Finding enough for a pie would be fantastic.

Never had one, but it looks great.

They are pretty good, although they do have seeds. I'll try baking them into a loaf of bread today. I could collect a 5 gallon bucket of them from one group of 5 small trees, but I'd have to process them into jam or freeze them. I'm thinking of making a Saskatoon berry harvesting invention. to speed things up and to get the higher up bunches.

I count both the bread and the jam as disappointments. The bread gained nothing but extra seeds and lost tastiness. The jam was so full of seeds it was ridiculous and I probably did not use enough sugar. For jam the berries need to be strained. And the flavor just wasn't so great after cooking. Much better fresh. Next time I will try just freezing the berries.
