Is AMFLOW The Thing Or Just A Hype?

I'm not saying anything will happen, but you need to download an app to register the motor
That is not anything dramatic. If you buy a Specialized and want to enjoy all the capability then you need to register* your e-bike and use your free account and app. Of course, you can reset the e-bike and ride it on its own.

Good to think a thief would have a hard time to make a Specialized fully functional. Perhaps it is the same with DJI?

This guy claims to have inside info, I dont have any proof of that, but its the first time Ive heard any talk of the unwritten law of legal power output

Not exactly sure what you’re saying, Charge… Are you implying that Amflow has potential to monitor your usage of your bike via this DJI hardware?
the gps is part of anivox systm, theres a sim card as well.
They can prevent my drone from flying with geofence, the neo drone needs an app connection every nine months.
Its not a leap to consider this for ebikes, it could even police speedhacks when the motor is providing the power if they wanted to.
In reality they will.
The electronic leash will be complete in five years.

Extraordinary account of DJI Amflow sales from these 2 bike shops in Wales. One has about 60% ebike sales in general, and of that, in the past year 60% have been Amflow/DJI bikes! Both shops say the huge Amflow sales have pretty much single handed saved their businesses from going under in the post Covid world wide bike slump. But also the communication with DJI has been excellent and the motors seem impressively robust - One shop said of all the Amflow bikes sold only 4 came back with motor issues. And that's in mountainous rainy Wales. At my own dealer where I bought my Vado SL, a mechanic there last year said that roughly 40 to 50% of Specialized emtbs had warranty returns.

Spesh must be furious that the new Levo Gen 4 was a year late and all the Amflow sales they have potentially missed. Plus the ongoing problems with the Brose motor. It's costing them dear. The fact a lot of Amflow buyers are also new to ebikes reminds me of the sales of Teslas (before the boss went all drugged up & fascist) and the iPhone, cutting through to the general population where other brands haven't. It's only a snapshot of 2 local bike shops but if this is the case elsewhere, traditional brands will be in trouble.

I've watched this.
ok...
Specialized/S-Works 3.1 having issues?
The new Levo Gen 4. Don't remember which version - Saw some motor problems mentioned in EMTB forums a couple of weeks ago. Shortage of replacement motors from Spesh under warranty, people waiting & suspicion (all just rumours) that they are focusing on selling new bikes, not fulfilling warranty claims just yet. Was put down as new model teething issues & potential Brose issues. How widespread this is, is never easy to tell, Brands not exactly broadcasting any bad news and with any bad news the forums love a juicy rumour. I mean Stefan if you are the numero uno Specialized fan boy on here, you are nothing to the Specialized fan boys on the emtb sites! And the war between Bosch and Spesh and lately Amflow v Spesh. Reminds me of the heady days in the photography world and the bitter rivalry between Nikon and Canon. Great days!

I started looking up emtb forums only this year when I got my Shimano EP6 motor, just to check potential issues (of which there are loads) but the forums are helpful with info on recognising error codes, potential repairs etc especially as the EMTB owners put their motors through hell.

I love that picture from the youtube vid… I’ve never thought of using a rock cravasse as a bike stand before. That’s awesome!

As for the DJI, now that it’s been out there a bit is anyone documenting the problems/failures? I’d love to hear more. Likely my “next” bike will have one of these someday.

Perspectives. You see awsomeness, I see a new wheel, fork, and an ambulance ride. :)

I'm waiting for the inevitable comparison between a DJI Avinox bike .vs. a Bosch CXR bike.

That's the surprising bit - one bike shop owner saying only four motor warranty replacements of all the Amflow bikes they sold in the last year since launch. They seem to be very reliable.

I didn’t watch the vid, Rás, but do you know how many they sold?

Are you a technical singletrack rider, Charlie?

I eat those up when I can, Stefan, but mostly not. My goal, and it’s fairly achievable around here, is to stay on the trails when I can.

On average, I ride on roads maybe 30-40% of the time though, especially in winter when the trails freeze up. Road conditions here in Massachusetts are lousy (sand, salt, slush… all the “S”s) through most of the winter and Fättie is really great for that.

The reason I said that about the Avinox is that I’m sure I’d want the power. My ultimate goals include lots of seat time and lots of exercise without over-exertion. Plus, comfort!

Just bear in mind a full suspension e-MTB is only practical off-road*. It is too slow and too noisy on the pavement. I ride non-technical trails (and asphalt) on my low power Vado SL but when I need more power, my heavier Vado 6.0 does. I swap tyres on the heavy Vado for studded Schwalbe Marathon Winter Plus, and actually ride it during the Polish winters.

I tried the FS e-MTB on gravel group rides for two times, and was dropped each time. It is not the matter what the peak motor power is, because you would finish with a flat battery soon had you used high power all the time. It is all about how the e-bike handles, and if it is naturally fast. If you think a FS e-MTB is a SUV e-bike then you are wrong :) (The first question is: "Why are these bars so wide?!")

I would keep the Fättie for the winters and buy something good both for trails and asphalt were I you.
