Installing mirror on the end of the handlebars

Update, handlebar mirror. Installed--finally. Should help even though it's small--a Zefal "Spin." I also have a helmet mirror.

Helpful info on the plastic plugs--thanks. If I sell the bike I'll get new ones and probably new end caps since they're a bit chewed up.

I just ordered a end type mirror from Amazon, but it won’t be delivered till next week. From what I’m told, there are two small screw on the grip, top and bottom. You’re supposed to remove the top screw which holds the end cap. The bottom screw holds the grip from turning. I’m sorry, I just looked at your question and i’s almost a year old.
Perhaps you solved the problem and can answer it for me?

Yes, the plastic bar end plugs would generally be considered to be in the "dime a dozen" cost category. You end up with a bunch of them when you change out grips and/or add mirrors.

Here are the rear bars on my Gepida Thoris. Generally 'locking' type grips will have a metal clamping ring on each side of the grip, normally with only one hex locking screw. I normally loosen the outer ring, use a bladed screwdriver to pry out the bar end cap, re-tighten the locking ring and install the mirror. Do your grip/locking rings look any different from this one?

The end caps on my Gepida handle bars look like this photo. I still have the mirror for the handle bar and wouldn't mind installing it. I'm still not sure if the mirror will firmly attach to the end of the handle bar. I will have to take a good look at it.

I ended up, from a suggestion on this forum, getting a helmet-mounted mirror from Efficient Velo Tools in Portland, Oregon. So the handle bar mirror would be a secondary spot mirror.

I've not tried a helmet mounted mirror, only an eyeglass mounted one ("take a look" brand) and couldn't get the rearward vision I wanted. Too bad because it would have been a much cheaper solution when you need to outfit multiple bikes.

Here is one of the Hafny mirrors we like mounted on bars similar to your Gepida. We find them to work really well, and feel naked out there if we happen to ride a bike without a mirror.
